Do you mean the debt is over 7 years old, or it's more than 6 years since you acknowledged it?

If you don't know, query it.

hi, yes the account i had with three must have been prior to 2010, as in 2010 i was on pay as go with 02

so i simply dont know if this is valid or not. i dont recall any letters from three saying i have ever owed them money. so i should just write back to them saying can you provide proof of this debt?

    Hi cjcooper

The letter that fermi has sent a link to raises both the issue that you have no knowledge of the debt and that if it is yours, they are out of time to collect it.

If a debt is statute barred it means a company has run out of time to obtain a CCJ. This applies if there has been 6 years (since court action could have been taken), where you have not acknowledged the debt in writing and no payment has been made towards it.

Once you've challenged the debt it's down to Lowell to show this is your debt and it's not statute barred. If they can't do that they will need to stop pursuing you. I hope it all goes well.
