    You're above the five years so you're contracted to give five weeks notice. BUT, will they want you to? Will you leaving at four weeks instead of five cause problems? If not then they may well be happy with four.

    Most employers are reasonable and understand that people joining and leaving is messy. I'd just be open and honest to both of them.

    I wouldn't be thrilled about staring with a company that wouldn't be flexible enough to put at start date back one week because of my notice period.

    Well handed in my notice yesterday to my manager who took it straight to the hr department, I stated my last day which was 4 weeks notice and they have kit questioned it to say it should be 5 weeks so they either haven't realised or just thought we can cope for the extra week?
