Old Style Daily Saturday 21st April 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Good Morning Holly H glad you had a nice evening Your lamb steak sounds really nice and just the job for a warm evening .Sitting in the park is lovely isn't it I have a smashing park close to me which is great as there are some lovely trees to sit in the shade of if its too hot, with a book and a flask. But people watching is even more fun.

Well I am up and about early today as I have to drive to Hertfordshire with my DGS Jack to see his accomodation, and where he will be staying this September when he starts at Uni there , we will probably then go on to norwich to meet up with his brother who is in Uni there afterwards So its going to be a long day. I have already made a picnic up and its in the cool bag for when we get there(no over-priced meal for us ,plus the day looks as though its going to be a cooler 20c and not the burning heat of yesterday.I have found a floaty scarf to cover my bad arm with and keep the sun from getting on it and I will also smother it with SF 50 sun cream before I go.
Hope everyone has a great day and its not too hot for you all.
Right I am now going off for a shower and then some breakfast before going to pick up my DGS Jack for our trip out

Take care chums and watch that sun it can get fierce at this time of the year

    Cheers JackieO xxx

    Good morning everyone :hello:

I got woken up with a horrible pain in my hip from where I was lying on it all night but it's worn off mostly now where I have been up and moving around. I've fed the animals, cleaned out the fridge ready for this week's shopping to be delivered later on and made myself a cup of tea.

Steve is supposed to be on cooking duty today but I have offered to do it as he will be gardening with Becky for most of the afternoon. We are going to have cheeseburgers skinny fries and salad as it's the nearest thing to a barbeque meal we have :D. Hope the sunshine makes an appearance.

JackieO, I hope you have a safe journey and your arm is ok xx
Holly, your day yesterday sounded really lovely and it is always nice to reconnect with an old friend xx

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Good morning everyone.

Thanks for the thread HH, your evening sounds lovely.

The weather looks brighter today, yesterday was sunny but a nippy wind made it cold.

The day with my friend was relaxed and greatly enhanced by stamping on large cardboard boxes to flatten them. Such fun. :j We watched a bit of TV and I was in bed by 9.30pm, I thought that was t too bad mannered of me!

Today we are going to a garden centre halfway down the peninsula. I got a bit inspired to buy some bulbs after watching Gardeners World last night. And they've got a cracking tea room too, perfect for lunch.

Have a great day folks, happy Saturday.
  • Morning folks and thanks HOLLY. Blue sky and sun now but they say rain is due by evening. If so I am hoping it is super heavy and washes away most of the mess the joiners have made with all the sawing and drilling etc outside.

The kitchen is proving a long, slow process. I now have worktops and two drawers but no doors or even the promised sink! He is coming back this morning, hopefully, to do that, he says! Then Monday the electrician is due back to connect up the fridge, oven, hob and dishwasher. And, I hope, the washing machine as the mountain upstairs is growing daily.

We are very late setting up the caravan this year due, mainly, to the poor Spring we've had, DGDs rehearsals in Darlington and, of course, Mr TA's health problems. However DD phoned yesterday with a plan to start opening up today if her BF and our DS could help. I could have cried as I feel bogged down enough with things as they are at the moment. We decided that if they could just (just ha ha!) uncover the van and do the awning then I would go over at some point with DD to set everything up as she is clueless about the electrics, water etc. Plus there are bags and bags of stuff still in our loft that's to take back.

I really can't see us getting there much, if at all, this year. We have had 9 lovely years at the site and the first few we were off walking every day. 9/10 miles at a time. Sadly those days are now gone and we can't turn back time unfortunately. I think this year will be the end of the road for us at our trusty caravan and it really saddens me to think about it.

As you will gather I am feeling down and morbid this morning and must try and snap out of it. Everything seems to have got on top of me.

Still no cooking facilities but, as the DGDs turned their noses up at beef casserole yesterday, there is still some left in the fridge so that will feed us nicely today. They settled on paninis which resulted in a game of "Hunt the panini press" amongst all the boxes and piles of kitchen stuff! It doesn't often get used as it was one of those things that seemed a good idea at the time when Aldi had them on special a few years back.

Time for another coffee and then better get dressed in readiness for the kitchen man (if he comes!)Have a good day folks and enjoy the sunshine while it lasts. ((HUGS)) for all in need/want of them. Take care all xx

    Good morning all

Holly thank you for starting us off, pleased you had a lovely day

TA hugs you have so much to deal with at the moment.

    Jackie, safe journey.

So hot yesterday, couldn't, didn't want to do gardening.

Had a red cabbage that I bought a few days ago, so braised cabbage in the sc, two jars of pickled red cabbage and pinkslaw made yesterday.

If today is hot I may have to do very little :D

Hope you all have a good day
If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.

    Morning All

Lovely and sunny here but still quite cold. Washing on the line including bedding, a white load to go in when I've had a shower.

Hugs TA, such a load on your mind.
Hope that arm is ok with you driving JackieO.
    Have another good day Holly.

Shopping to do this morning then I've been invited to DS1s for the afternoon, he now has his own house and is keen to show it off. We've come a long way since Christmas! I still haven't met the grandchildren but don't want to spoil things between him and his ex. I'm sure it will happen sometime and I'm just glad to have him back in my life.

Enjoy the good weather and have a good weekend. Take care. XX

Morning everyone and thanks for the start Holly what a lovely day you had yesterday, so good to hear x
A big hug for TA and a safe journey wish for JackieO

Another one here who watched GW last night Gers and was inspired to start planting up, will however have to sit on my hands until after the Cornish holiday as wont be around for any watering that is needed, but have a plan in mind for my summer pots and baskets :j
What with Lu and a trip into town for a much needed haircut I didn’t get round to changing the bed yesterday so that’s on the agenda for today, along with the towels. Also need to get out to the farm shop for meat and eggs, and to the nursery for birdseed. Lu has had a couple of days off ridden work so that’s on the agenda for this afternoon so busy busy.

Take care all and have a good Saturday x

    Good morning all,

TA every kitchen that I've had replaced (need to stop buying "projects") has made me cry. From the big one that took 3 months and involved removing a chimney breast to the small one that only took 2 weeks. Adding caravan stuff onto that would have been way too much.

Yesterday I gardened for most of the day. Today will be a quick trip to the supermarket as soon as I'm dressed as the car was in the garage yesterday morning and I wasn't going on a Friday afternoon. It's like an inner circle of hell on Fridays.....I'll carry on with the garden after that. Hopefully it will be done by the time the rain is due which if the weather guess is right will be about tea time.

    Take care all of you

TA, I'm sorry you're going through such a tough time at the moment, I'm not surprised that you're down with all that's been thrown at you lately.

Holly, i'm glad you are getting out and about.

camelot, I'm glad you've reconnected with DS, I can't imagine not being in contact with one of my two.

For those interested DD has an appt at the fertility clinic at Guys (the best place according to her GP) in May. She's being positive and is also seeing her accupuncturist who is supportive and has treated others who are going through conventional treatment as well. Fingers crossed for a good outcome.

We're off to see DS and DiL this morning we were supposed to be doing some more of the Norfolk coast path but DS hads come back from Wales with raging hayfever and doesn't feel up to it. Just a thought Judi, I suffer from late onset Hayfever and for a few years thought that I was suffering from colds every spring - do you think this could be Grump's problem.

I'm now being very vigilant about my pristine kitchen, I wonder how long that will last. DH invested in a new carpet cleaner and cleaned the hall and living room carpets yesterday so they look much better as well.
  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one, a specially big one to the TA's. I really wish we had put our van on a permanent site, so we could have gone off for a few days. However I sold it instead. At the time I just could not afford to pay storage etc.

We had a nice time with my quilting friend yesterday, another friend turned up whilst we were there, had not seen her for ages. The road coming home was horrendous, just the mass of traffic and people in wrong lanes switching at the last moment, I was glad to get home.

No gardening done, we are forecast hail later today so plants need to go in the little greenhouse, the rest will be ok outside. I need to get them in the ground before too long, the containers will have to wait until we get back from holiday, will do what we did last year and put them on trays in the kitchen sitting on the gel stuff from disposable nappies. It will keep them going for the time we are away.

I still have a sheet and quilt cover to iron, so will do those before OH goes out to finish painting the shed with preservative. I have told him to sit on his stool to do the bottom bit. No way am I going to pick him up again!!

OH has requested stovies tonight, will peel and slice the spuds leave them in water till I am ready to use them.
