  • Hi everyone, hope you had a nice weekend! :)

Well I have had such an eventful week. Had to take my eldest son who is 5 off to hospital on Tuesday as he had a nasty reaction to a wasp sting :( Luckily nothing too serious, though at the time I thought it could have been - he went pale and lifeless on me. After being given some steroid treatment, antihistamine and a few days with the most epic rash you've ever seen he now, thankfully fine (and knows not to try and make a tunnel with his hand in order for a wasp to fly through!!).

I ended up with an involuntary day off work and Friday too. My whole work place (campus) endured a power cut so staff were told not to come in unless they were student-facing. So the majority of people got the day off work. I took the opportunity to run a few errands in town on Friday. I bought some very cheap school shirts and polo shirts from A!di for when my eldest goes in to Year 1. Also my youngest will be joining the nursery attached to my eldest school in September so the polo shirts were for him. I also popped into the store next door - a well-known £ store that is soon to be closed....and I picked up some absolute bargains for the total price of £25!!! I got a couple of imitation Lego sets - one is a fire engine and one is a pirate ship, I think they were half price but I can't recall how much I paid for them. I got a pop-up knight play tent for £2.80 which will do for my youngest birthday in October. I also got some metal die cast cars at half price and then some rolls of Christmas wrapping paper at 30p each and loads of stuff for Christmas :money: was proper chuffed with my little bargains!! To balance out my feel-good vibes, I then came home on Friday after being in town and had to go straight to bed as I seemed to have some mystery flu-like bug that put me on my backside and fatigued me so much that I had no choice but to go to sleep on Friday afternoon and not wake up til gone noon on Saturday. My mum had to take the kids off my hands, I was in no fit state to move. I had fever, chills, aches, pains, nausea, dizziness, you name it. Sunday I was absolutely fine again! Was weird!!!

In other news, I also managed to make an OP of £250 towards the end of last week. My regular monthly DD has just gone out too so my mortgage balance now stands at £93441 but I expect it to be £93620 when the interest is added. Still I'm very happy I've broken through the next £1000 threshold :T

    Onwards, ever onwards!

  • Ooh...something else occurred to me that happened last week (last week was eventful for a multitude of things but I won't delve in to all of it). I switched broadband/landline provider. New broadband should be with me on 10th August (had to give 30 days notice to current BB provider :( ) BUT, I should from August be able to save £25-£30 per month :D I may stick this onto my recurring OPs. Or the money may just get absorbed with all my other living expenses. Will see how that pans out.

    Any road...

  • Just managed to make another OP. Only £150 but still. The chap on the other end of the line made me laugh. he said, "Just for your information, from October last year to the current period, you've made £2000* worth of overpayments. You have £7000* up til October this year remaining. So if you wish to make a lump sum payment of £7000*, we would revert your monthly payment back to the original amount (£350) so you don't incur a penalty. Is that all right?". To which I replied "Yes that's fine, I only want to pay £150" :rotfl:

It's only small amounts but it all adds up! At least that's what I keep telling myself so I don't get demotivated from my goal. It does feel like it's going to take me a lifetime to get the balance down. My original loan was just £99875 nearly 3 years ago. Still in the £90k band. Someone please send me some words of inspiration.

    *Couldn't recall the exact amounts

  • Hope everyone is well.

Sorry if I've missed it but does anybody know where I can get a(n) SOA form from? I'm feeling brave....

Well the school holidays have begun and I have had a few not very MSE spendy few days. On Wednesday I took my 2 boys to the pet store (a very well-known pet store) and I spent £20 on guinea pig food (it was buy one, get one half price to be fair), a new water bottle for the piggies, some wood shavings and some hay. Twenty Pounds!!!!!:eek:

I then took the boys out for lunch in the local cafe as it was too nice to go home and I fancied a walk, so that was a tenner.

My youngest is potty training - reluctantly! He will use the potty at the childminders but when I try with him at home he point blank refuses. So I decided maybe he doesn't like his potty at home. I looked on eBay for the exact same one the childminder uses. Its a purple Pourty. That set back me a tenner!! Hopefully he will take to it as hes used to it. However I have found that bribes seem to be working quite well at the moment :D

Yesterday was very unexpected. There was a lorry which crashed into a bridge on the M6 between J32 and J33. That section of motorway had to close in order for them to repair the bridge which was now being held up by said lorry. Luckily the driver was ok, he is in hospital and doing fine according to local news.
However, the absolute chaos which was created by the closure of that section of motorway is indescribable. I use that section of M6 everyday to get to work. But I got totally stuck in my hometown, nothing could get in and nothing could get out. The whole city was total gridlock from early morning til late last night. There were queues of traffic down every street, cars were literally crawling along in the heat before coming to a halt again. Suffice to say I sat in a traffic jam in my hometown for about an hour and a half!!! Then the two cups of tea I had drank that morning ran their course. I suddenly found myself needing to wee. What was I to do?? I managed to make a U-turn on a main road and drove home!! :rotfl: I explained the situation to my line manager, he was very cool about it and told me I might as well write the day off and not even attempt to make it in to work.

I got a text message yesterday too, my sister gave birth to her first-born, a little girl :smileyhea

So off I mooched into town with my free day off and my 2 boys and their dad who had been looking after them at the time and I ended up forking out on new school jumpers and school trousers. Not only for the 5 yo but the 2 yo too as he starts nursery in September and has to wear the school uniform  that came to £33. I also spent £8 in Wi!kos on a present and card for my sisters newborn and some bleach and a couple of those hangy-things you peg socks and underwear on for drying. Lo and behold I saw that they sell guinea pig products in Wi!kos for a fraction of the cost of the pet store!! So I was kicking myself that I didn't look there first!!!!!!

It all adds up, I'm not a very spendy person by nature so I'm annoyed by how much is going out of my bank account. Plus I promised the kids a cinema trip if they are well-behaved this weekend. Its extortionate though....

Anyway I feel like I've rambled enough, hope you lovely readers can make sense of my nonsense.

If anyone could send me the link to the SOA thingy, I'll do it while I've found my backbone :rotfl:

  • Still can't find the SOA sheet, so I may have to start my own.

£3 transferred to my savings account, will build this up and transfer to the mortgage once it's a decent amount.

Had a massive declutter of the kids bedroom at the weekend - did a tip run. Have loads to either a) charity shop or b) sell online. When I get 5 minutes...

  • Hi folks,

Hope you had a good weekend. Mine was mixed. Had my nephew stop over so that was fun. On the downside my ex partners 13 year old nephew died in an accident early hours of yesterday morning. We both spent yesterday in shock and tears. I feel so awful for his family. Such a young age, totally unexpected. Been trying to keep myself busy but I've had very broken sleep. I wish there was something I could do but I can't. I'm at work today, think I'm just gonna keep my head down.

Here's my SOA - finally done it.
