Tick Tock Nationwide

Options
So we've applied for a first time buyer mortgage with Nationwide, documents submitted, valuation completed last Thursday, more documents requested and submitted yesterday morning and then............nothing. What happens now and how long does it normally take with Nationwide?

It varies, depending on how busy the underwriters are, and how much they want to probe your finances.

According to their intermediary page it is taking up to 11 days from submit to offer. So 11 days from the last piece of into submitted would be a marker to go by

I'm sure there are different teams for different purposes and a range of difficult / straightforward cases.

Been very quick in my case for a remortgage.

    DIP by phone on 24/3/18
Application 4/4/18 slightly delayed because of holiday weekend
    Offer issued 11/4/18
    Received by post 14/4/18

Hi, I am a first time buyer with Nationwide.

We applied for a mortgage with them back in January, it took 4 weeks and 1 day from application to offer. I was told to expect it to take 4-6 weeks, however mine might have been slightly delayed due to taking a long time to organise the survey, and we had some issues with our proof of deposit and they asked for some clarification and extra documents to support it, so we were toing and froing with that for a little while.

This property fell through after we had our mortgage offer posted to us, and we have now found somewhere else.

I put the mortgage application in branch on 09.04.2018, this time knowing all of the things to provide them with so they didn't have to come back to us asking for more documents, and looking at the progress of it on my account, it looks like everything has been signed off and they are only waiting for the survey, which took place this morning! Hopefully should not be too much longer now :)

    Best of luck to you!

Hi, we're FTB, 90% LTV, otherwise straightforward case.

We're at 6 weeks and have just had verbal confirmation. Awaiting paperwork (another 1-2 weeks) now.
  • We have now been declined for the original amount applied for of £171,000 and instead been offered £170,200 leaving us with an extra £800 to find.

Sorry to hear that Mikehextall. Do you know why? Was it down to the valuation?

Mikehextall - I am sorry to hear that. Could I please ask how you found that out?

As mentioned in my previous post, Countrywide went into the property we are buying and they threw up some problems, and Nationwide have declined our original amount also, and they told me it has gone back to the underwriters for review. This was on Friday, and was hoping to find out when and how I will know what our offer/conditions are? We bought the house for 162,000 and the surveyor has valued it at 155,000.

We are not put off by the property at all, however want to go to the seller ASAP with our options and negotiation choices as they want a quick sale! If they do give us 155,000, there is no way we can make up the difference back to the original amount, as we do not have any spare money, it is all going to be for fixing the problems we knew about when we made the offer and have come up in the survey :( However we are willing to put the money we will have left over due to the drop in needed deposit.

    Thanks :)
