I think the market has moved on from the days of my old device - Was A great little thing

Looks like the best thing around for my purposes now would be a portable speaker with a usb flash drive socket - something like

I dont really want to be carrying around a lot of kit ( and dont want to use my phone ). Budget up to £40

A phone with a large mSD card is really your best bet these days.

Review sites like gsmarena.com, do independent test where they do assess the volume, and to a slight extent quality, of phone speakers.

Consider with a phone you also (probably) get FM radio, and access to 1000's of podcasts and Internet radio channels

I am forced to have an Iphone because of work
, and so isnt the easiest thing in the world just to connect up and load with mp3 files stored on my PC ( unless someone can tell me different )

There is quite a few bluetooth speaker with micro sd car slot for mp3, like the one you link.
But the main problem is they do not have screen which could make it difficult to select songs.
Portable radio with sd card and screen display could be an option?
Alternative would be cheap mp3 + portable speaker.

    If you can either:
    • Install software on your works PC OR
    • Are allowed to connect your work iphone to another PC outside work,
Then it should be easy. Just install ITunes (or other thrid party sofyware) on the PC, and drag and drop music from PC or storage device onto your iphone
