Old Style Daily Monday 16th April 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Good morning everyone :hello:
Thank you Holly for starting us off but I am sorry you are still not sleeping, hope you manage to get some rest later on.
I'm another one who can't sleep, I've been tossing and turning for ages so decided to get up and make a cup of tea. I am worried about Becky again, she refuses to go back to school so I am trying to decide whether to formally withdraw her and just home educate her for a while. It is a big decision and one that I want to get right. Becky is very keen on the idea but I am worried she will end up with no qualifications. We could do it for a year and then she could possibly go to college and do her gsce's there. She is very very bright and I am sure she could catch up if she wanted to, but will she be motivated to do this after being at home where it is 'safe'. On the other hand, she won't go into school. I think I need another cup of tea.
I am waiting for Steve to get up for work and then I will prepare the veg for tea. I am going to make a stew even though it is supposed to be getting warmer as I still have some of the cheap veg in my fridge from all the Easter deals and it needs to be used up. It will give me a chance to use my new peelers from Lakeland. I feel positively evangelical about them as they are so sharp and easy to use and they were only £3.99 each.
My lovely cmht lady is coming to see me this afternoon. I don't feel up to going out today so hopefully she will not mind. Maybe I will change my mind later on though so I will get washed and dressed anyway. I feel less and less like going out these days but a lot of it is down to my physical fitness (or lack of it I should say). I find it very difficult to walk far and even holding onto a shopping trolley is hard. I need to crack back on with losing some weight to make it easier for me. Jemima is starting Slimming World again so I may do it from home as I still have an online subscription with them.
Phew, I seem to have a lot to say this early in the morning. I hope you all manage to have lots of sleep and then have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Good morning Holly and Dumpling, I've been asleep but DS woke me accidentally by clumping past my bedroom door on his way to the loo - I don't think I was deeply asleep so would probably have woken anyway.
I don't work on Mondays and have tomorrow off too as I tend to work according to what needs doing and worked extra hours over the past few weeks. I had been asked to do a job in Kent but I can't complete it before retiring as it can't be started yet so someone else will take that on.
Holly I hope that seeing your records is helpful.
Dumpling I do know people who have hone-educated and their children have eventually gone back to mainstream school.
Wishing everyone a good dayI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning All
Our sunshine didn't last long yesterday, some of the washing was dry before I left at 2pm but the load I left out was wetter than when it started! Raining again today but fairly mild.
I met DS1 for a late lunch yesterday and we had a good catch up. Also went to a garden centre and bought some seeds and small veggie plants, not sure it's quite the weather to put them out though.
I hope the non-sleepers managed to get back over, sod's law I was fast asleep when the alarm went off, 2 weeks of waking early when I didn't need to and this morning I was fast asleep!
Anyway, swim and back to work for me, by 9am it'll be as if we've never been off.
Happy Monday, take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone
hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, but he wants me to wake him as he's going to go for a run first thing.
Now light, drying up underfoot but still lots of laying water, it's going to take a while as everywhere is just so water logged. Forecast looks reasonable for today, I have a load of washing to peg out.
Lunch yesterday was going to be roast pork, but Saturday afternoon DH suggested that instead of roast we could get the bbq out - I had some chicken breasts, sausages and fish in the fridge. So the roasting joint went in the freezer and then he duly decides yesterday on the way home from visiting the oldies and it's going to be time to get the lunch cooking he doesn't want a bbq and could I cook it indoors! So I did HM egg fried rice and stir fry veg in oyster sauce - all very nice. It wasn't that much work as the stir fry was ready frozen, and all the meat went in the oven, just made the rice dish. Also did mean that I hadn't got a dirty bbq to clean etc. Dinner tonight will be either fish, chips/jacked potato, beans/veg or smoked sausage and mushroom pasta in creme fraiche sauce, menfolk will have a breaded chicken portion with theirs.
Back to work for me today, hoping for a busy day so it goes by in a flash.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone.
Dull and dark'ish here. After the morning sunshine yesterday the heavens opened for the rest of the day. At least I got things planted, hope they haven't drowned!
Of course both my visitors arrived at exactly the same time yesterday. So annoying. The one I really needed to talk to didn't even get out of his car. He emailed later and will come back, he thought the first visitor would be ages and she wasn't. Ho hum!
When I climbed into bed I found that my faithful electric blanket had turned up its toes. <shock horror>. I stripped the guest bed, took off that electric blanket to put on my bed. It was too cold to do without support heating last night. A replacement blanket is on order.
As for the loose cow, at least it was a calf this time, last year it was an injured bull which jumped over the drystone wall to get away from a more aggressive bull. Never a dull moment.
Right, it's back to work time for me too. Must away to get myself sorted.
I hope that everyone is doing well, hanging on or getting better. Happy Monday to all.0 -
Morning folks and thanks HOLLY. I hope the early risers manage a nap later. As usual mine was a fitful night of sleeping and wakening.
We got back from Darlington yesterday rather later than planned as the train we had booked tickets on was held up. Due to a fatality on the line after the train left Edinburgh. Sad news for someone and my heart goes out to the relatives.
Our few days was marred a bit by health problems but we did our best to overcome them. Mr TA had a day of D & V (he blames the Chinest buffet we'd had the night before but the rest of us were ok) DD had an allergic reaction to something and came up in itchy lumps and blotches and I had a one sided jaw/face ache which kept coming and going.
Coppelia was absolutely lovely and all the members of the English Youth Ballet did their parents proud. DGD was one of the Chinese dolls and her solo spot was performed impeccably. Then she was one of the four betrothed couples in the final act. Horror of horrors, having to dance with a boy! Aw they looked so sweet. I did far too much eating, despite devouring a huge breakfast at the hotel. Some restraint is now called for!
Arrived home to chaos! The kitchen ripped out as planned and bits everywhere. I thought I had been organised with all my packed up kitchen boxes etc but still I couldn't find where I had put anything. Tea was a cobbled together affair of stuff warmed in the mw and I was fed up before the job gets properly underway. The electrician is due today to get all his jobs done. I could do with leaving Mr TA with him and popping down to get some much needed shopping. Mostly fridge stuff. As well as my medication from Sainsbobs pharmacy as I run out of some stuff today.
Have a better and more organised day than me everyone. HOLLY I hope your usual GP can offer the support you need. DUMPLING that's a big decision you have to make, I hope it turns out to be the right one. ((HUGS)) for all in need/want of them and take care. I have no idea what time the electrician is arriving so better getting myself dressed and looking presentable next job in case it;s early. xxx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Dry here and meant to be sunny all day ! we shall see ! On Wed its supposed to be getting up to 25deg !! we wont know ourselves !!
I struggled to get out of bed this morning, the weekends go so quickly and before you know it its back to work, having a few days off last week has made me really determined to cut my hours to four days a week, so im paying my car loan off ASAP.
Fajitas for dinner tonight which dd will cook as its her turn, she tends to get in early Monday nights so she can start dinner.
Dumpling Im not sure what the answer is with Becky, it would worry me that if she left eduction she would not want to return, but as you said she is refusing to go now anyway, you have a lot of thinking to do I think.
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone, hugs to our early rises with worries on their minds, hope the docs appointment goes as well as possible Holly, Dumpling it’s a big decision for sure, could your lovely cmht lady suggest someone to talk to?
Bright and sunny here but a tad chilly, like RR we are supposed to be getting up into the mid twenties temperature wise by Thursday, toes have been painted in preparation for sandal wearing
Eldest DSS popped in on his way home yesterday, he was a tad late for a roast dinner but did get a warm gammon baguette which was thoroughly enjoyed, he has a big decision to make over his future but is a sensible lad and won’t rush into anything.
I do need to pop out soon for a few fresh bits, we are getting through a lot of salad type bits and I will be glad when I can pick my own again.
Lu will need exercising after her day off yesterday and maybe a bath if the weather is warm enough.
Have a good day folks x0 -
Morning (((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one, especially Holly, I hope your appointment with the Dr goes ok. Dumpling I hope you can sort Becky out, keep your chin up girl!!
Bright morning, bed stripped, looking forward to getting washing dried on the line. I also want to get out in the garden for an hour this morning and do a bit more cleaning up and hoeing. I have a lot of plants to go in and more coming. I picked up a cheap offer from T & M for 72 plants 6 of 12 varieties, they will need potting on.
Lamb casserole for supper with mash and veg. I took apples out to do a crumble yesterday, but as we had lunch out I did not do it, will do that this afternoon for dessert.0 -
Morning all
I have woken up with a raging headache again and i have so much to do I am getting fed up with this and my ear is still not right it feels full of water but there is nothing there when i give it a wiggle I am sure thats what made me ill on holiday i just wish it would sort itself out
Right Dolly has been walked and wm is whirring away i need to go shopping and pick up a chest of drawers for DD1 from ikea as we managed to fit an extra one in her room at the weekend so hopefully her flat is virtually done and she can take her remaining bits .
Dumpling as mum of a aspie i did think of home schooling but what put me off was would i be able to be the teacher and not the parent and would he be able to differentiate. Its a hard one as you just want to see them happy.
Sun is shinning so best get on have a great day whatever you are up to x0
