Wrong name on National Insurance Number Letter!

Hi there!
So I received my National Insurance Number today via post, and they got my name wrong despite me sending them copies of my passport as proof of identity...
Should I be worried? I'm afraid my name would appear wrong on my wage slips and my P60 eventually.
As far as I understand, it is the number that's important isn't it?

Thanks for the help!

It's the number and the name that's important, you may have problems with potential employers verifying your eligibility to work in the UK if they don't match.

Get back to the department that issued your NI number and complain.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

It is extremely important that your name is spelt correctly and is complete. How do you know this NI number is even yours? It might belong to someone with a very similar name spelt slightly differently.

As Owain says, it could affect your ability to prove your eligibility to work in the UK and to claim any benefits, should the need arise. It will affect your pension. You need to get this sorted ASAP.

As the OP only posted once, and that was over a year ago, I very much doubt you will get a reply. Your son needs to do exactly the same as was advised earlier in the post.

Just ask your son to contact them and ask for the surname to be rectified, its easily done and sorted really.
