in Loans
Hi
I dont think this has been asked before so here goes...
My neighbour came to see me saying she had had a phone call from a post delivery service trying to find me. They rang her as she lived in the same road as they could not find a phone number for me. They left a number for me to ring about post that had been sent to a previous address and therefore never received by me.
Being a bear of little brain I rang them, they said the post might be for me but that i had to verify some details, I know I should have realised straight away there was something odd but I am afraid I did not. Long story short the woman became very offensive saying i had an outstanding debt with st helens glass that was taken out at this previous address and that they were collecting payment.
There were several problems with this
1) if they are a postal delivery comapny why are they asking me about a loan?
2) I never took a loan out at this address
3) I have never taken out a loan from st helens glass
4) The address is a previous address of mine but the time the loan was supposedly taken out I was not at that address and yet they insist this is the address the loan wa taken out from
5) there is no way i would have put new windows and or doors in a house i did not own and this address was rented.
6) when I became suspicious and tried to get some details from them the woman became very stroppy and uncooperative.
I have now had a letter from a company called link financial (not a postal delvivey comapny at all). The letter is new and not one that has been redirected. It states only that they have bought a debt and gives no amount or details of who the debt was from or anything. The body of the letter however tells me to pay asset link capital and says that contractual interest is being applied.
I am at a loss I know this debt is not mine and yet they are harrassing me for it. I also know that st helens glass the company they originally quoted as being the source of the debt, is no longer trading and watchdog has mentioned several scams regarding collecting debts in the name of this company. I am at a loss over all this. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

They arent a dodgy company in that they do exist, however their tactics with other people certainly seem to be underhand to say they least.
Firstly if you are absolutely sure that you didnt sign for this loan you can inform them that the loan itself is in dispute and that any further contact from them will be deemed as harrasment.
Then you need to find out why they would think you had a loan with St. Helens Glass in the first place. The only thing I can think to do for that is to get in contact with the administrators and see if they have any paperwork on the loan in question.
Incidentally, here are their non-PO Box contact details:
