How to pay for an email service

Sadly, the Consumers' Association (Which?) had decided to close its email service, meaning I've got to find a substitute within two months.
The good thing about which.net is that you can access it through webmail and it doesn't come with adverts, because it is paid for.
Because part of my email is used for business purposes, I would like to have my own email service; one that is accessed purely by webmail. I want to pay for this to ensure no adverts.
But are there services out there that would allow me to have my own email domain and not require me to download any software at all onto my computer? Can you recommend one?

Pretty much all mail hosting solutions will have webmail access. See who provides email hosting and check out the features.0

All of them? Although a lot prefer you to use their app etc.
Mostly the email is accessible via a browser.
I get a lot from yahoo, you dont appear to be using our app, your chosen method is insecure please use our app. Err no yahoo itself is insecure lol
I prefer thunderbird to webmail though.
You can buy your own domain for less than £10 a year.. anythingyou likeforemail.com or co.uk or .net or lots of others....Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Gmail, who will sell your details, but I see no sign of adverts. It has 2 factor secure web access, phone apps and 15GB of free storage.
Others that I use are ProtonMail, very secure and based in Switzerland. Free for basic accounts.
Tutanota, less secure than ProtonMail. Based in Germany and free for basic accounts.0 -
TechRadar have some suggestions. I haven't tried any of them myself.0

I am in the same position as you. Which? has been great over the years and it's demise is very sad but understandable.
I have not yet decided but have ruled out Proton mail. Although very secure (reportedly) and encrypted if cannot be used for all web sites as a contact address and encryption is only to and in the server not to other non proton users so a bit limiting. I don't wish several accounts so am looking for a 'one size fits all' solution......if such is available.
I also have a thread at https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/58183440 -
I use bravehost for all my websites and emails, find it very reliable and cheap0

Incorrect, with ProtonMail you can receive regular non encrypted email from web sites, etc. If you send email from the account by default it is not encrypted to non ProtonMail addresses. You can encrypt the email (click the padlock symbol) and pass the decode details to the recipient by phone.
The big advantages of ProtonMail mail are no adverts, no selling your details to 3rd parties and no ISP or government snooping on your email.0 -
Thanks for the clarification, frozen, I had missed the point regarding encryption for mail to non proton users. Can it also work with encryption for mail sent to a proton account originated elsewhere or for replies from non proton users?
The point I did not make very well regarding web sites was from the post made in the other thread....
QUOTE=djhworld;74097862]Great email provider, but try signing up to MSE forums with an @protonmail.com address and you'll be immediately rejected for "using an invalid email domain"
[/QUOTE]
If that applies to MSE forum I have wondered how widespread the restriction will be!
I would add that my impression is also that there is still a bit of development works going on at proton. Perhaps of no great issue!0 -
Thanks for all the feedback. I've been mulling over lots of options, particularly the suggestions on Tech Radar. I was going to choose Fasthosts, but they've had such AWFUL reviews, I am extremely wary. However, they have an easy webmail access, which is exactly what I want.
The alternatives use something called Microsoft Web app. Does this mean I have to download something onto my computer in order to access webmail, or is it simply an online interface that allows me to access my webmail account? I just want online access to my email; I don't want to download to my computer.0
