'can i see a dentist in another borough'

I moved 2 years ago and haven't seen my dentist since then.
Its a NHS practice.
Its also for people with special needs. I am very scared of dental visits, hence avoiding for such a long time.
Last week I chipped a front tooth so need to get it sorted.
Called my old dentist (who has been great with me), to be told as its a NHS practice and its over 2 years I've been taken off the books.
I really don't want to go anywhere else.
I was told to go back to my GP to be referred.
I didn't tell them I'd moved in case I had a chance of going back.
Does anyone know if, with NHS 'Choices' I can choose any practice, or do you have to stay within your own borough?
TIA

If it's a normal dental practice, you can go outside your area. If it's a specialist community dental service, you'll need to check the local arrangements. Some accept self referrals, some you have to go via your GP/ CPN etc.0

Thanks for quick reply, its a specialist surgery. I had to go there after a year long farce with a dentist that turned out to be freaky!
I refer to they guy as Dr Shipman's brother.
God knows what would have happened if a friend (she was dental receptionist) told me what he was up to was certainly NOT normal.
All very upsetting, I'm amazed I ever went to this new guy.
Now I don't want to go anywhere else

I would try and get a re-referral if possible. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
