Have been away and so shall now close this thread after reading all the replies.. Many thanks to all who took the time to reply to me; some of whom were more helpful than others! Not sure though if I will use this outlet for any future financial advice, as some seemed to want to come over as intentionally confrontational in their feedback, when we all merit to be treated politely even though we are all strangers to each other. Now onwards and upwards towards retirement!0

Exactly. So remember that next time you try to tar others with the same brush.some of whom were more helpful than others!
Realistically, nothing on this thread has been helpful due to the lack of information you have given. If you had taken time to supply a bit more information as asked, you would have found the responses much more useful. Its not too late.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

I am very sorry you have had such a negative experience.
I myself have been the beneficiary of a great deal of helpful pointers on this board, so it's a real shame that this thread has turned unpleasant.
Please do read all the links provided by xylophone: they are always carefully chosen and illuminating.
Also dunstonh has access to IFA material that, infuriatingly, seems to be becoming increasingly difficult for the rest of us to find. It's a shame that the two of you have got off on the wrong foot.
My OH has a section 32 buyout policy from Aviva due to mature in a few weeks time and I have to say that the recent correspondence provided appears to be designed to mislead, at least in terms of generous statutory increases to be applied to the GMP if he decides to defer payment beyond State Pension Age. Various MSE threads on S32s have been insightful.
Did you receive correspondence from the provider in the 1990s re potential mis-selling?
Your wariness of IFAs is entirely logical in the light of your previous experience.0
