What should a shopping budget for 2 23 y/o per week be?

Options
We go from eating cheap meals to processed foods, we generally spend £40 on food for the week or sometimes £50 depending on if I have household items to buy (which I try to stick to home brands as best as I can) .

I was just wondering , what should a weekly budget for 2 young adults, working full time and needing tea should cost?

It all depends on whether you have dietary requirements or whether you eat meals based around meat or fish, or meals that consists of fruit, veg and lentils etc. Making extra portions and freezing is cheaper, as is meal planning and only buying what's on your list. If you go on the Old Style Money saving board, you should get more people replying. There are lots of threads on there on how to make your money go further, but still eat well. Also you could have a look at the grocery challenge, which may give you something to work towards.

stop eating processed foods and ready meals and you should just about half your current budget freeing up some cash to spend on 'real' food

The question is how long is a piece of string...?

Having said that, I don't think £20 pw is too much to be spending per head. I spend a great deal less but then I barely eat.

If you do get into the whole comparison "my shopping is cheaper than your shopping" thing it is important to look at what you are comparing. A few expensive items can make a great deal of difference -
Alcohol , branded fizzy drinks , bottled water can easily account for 25%->50% of some peoples sending
