Losing driving licence, worried about ID theft and fraud

So Saturday i stupidly managed to lose my driving licence in IKEA local to me. Gutted isn't the word. I went back through the store to ask around the areas i had been looking in and also asked in lost and found, nothing had been handed in. Security couldn't take my number due to data protection but gave me a number to call back, being bank hols i could only phone today with no luck still.
But around 2 hours after knowing i had lost it, i reordered a new one with DVLA stating that mine was lost. Since then i have been a constant state of worry of someone picking this up and doing good knows what with it. Knowing my address, my name, DOB etc and claiming what they can on it and generally ruining my life. Honestly not sure what i can do, has anyone been in a similar situation? advise much appreciated and thanks in advance.

DS2 'lost' his passport in Germany a few years ago and suffered no ill effects at all, apart from the financial disadvantage of having to replace it.

When I say 'lost' it was in an unzipped pocket of his rucksack (I know!), and then it wasn't, so I don't think he just 'lost' it, I think it was taken.

There are very few things you can do with just one piece of ID, so unless you find worrying about these things helps, I'd try and stop.

I would try not to worry too much about it, although I know I would be worrying as well. I think for future advice is don't carry your licence around with you I never carry mine unless I'm going to use it for something. For safety in general I never carry anything I don't need.

Sign up to experian & check your financial health.

Revisit every three months for a year.

If everything seems familiar (& you query everything not), (a) you get peace of mind & (b) you develop a virtuous new habit.

It's an eyeopener, but downright restful once you've got into the swing of it.
