Evening all,
This is my 8th day in bed with flu and still under the weather, have no energy and off my food. I was wondering what your go to meals are when under the weather. I’m looking for recipe ideas and inspiration for nourishing meals/snacks to help get me back on my feet.
N.B I am generally in good health and eat healthily

If you have the energy to cook with such a debilitating illness I salute you!
I survived on water, tea and greek yogurt.
When feeling a bit better just ate Tuc crackers and cheese and chicken soup. A bit of toast now and then.
I can't think of anything else, because food was low down on my list really. Just make sure your intake of fluids is good. Everything else can wait.0 -
Yes, I remember having "something like the 'flu" according to the Dr, when OH drove me to the walk in centre on day 5 having had ½ cream cracker during that time.
Apart from home made chicken soup which is meant to have health properties, which there isn't a chance on this earth you will be well enough to make. I would just stick to what you fancy.
I did buy a tonic in the end, after about six weeks of pushing one foot in front of the other in order to walk.0 -
When I took the flu 2 years back I couldn't eat a thing for days. I just drank plenty of fluids
After about 10 days I could stomach tinned pears
think it was 3 weeks before I ate solid food and for some mad reason, I wanted a mcdonalds. I don't like mcdonalds but thats what I wanted and I thought I was so hungry I would have ate a horse between two carts. It took me an hour or so to get that cheeseburger in me lol
Don't worry about food, listen to your body. I found everything tasted so bloody awful even when I thought I fancied something, it tasted so horrible I couldn't get it down. Tinned soup and yoghurts went down ok in small amounts. A boiled egg, a slice of toast, very small amounts as invariably I threw it up again
Im thinking that it took at least a month from finally getting out of bed to eat a proper meal, a tiny meal but a proper meal
Hope you start feeling better soon0 -
I'm on day 8 too. Slept too much today so can't sleep now. Today I ate a custard cream and a satsuma (to avoid scurvy!)
At about 10 pm I fantasised about a portion of chip shop chips. I don't actually think I could have eaten them but the thought of having the energy to go the chip shop and buy and enjoy a portion of chips seems a very far distant dream.0 -
I can remember longing for a MacDonalds after the flu too. Last time I had it I wanted steak when I was starting to recover-probably couldn't have swallowed it but that's what I wanted.0

My mum used to make up up Complan when ill. It's a powder from the chemist (Boots do it amongst others) and you mix it with milk or water, it has all the vitamins and minerals etc in it. Hope you feel better soon!0

Usually I crave salty foods.Last time was a plain crisp sandwich. Healthy foods were not on the menu for a few days.0

When I had the flu I had frozen ready meal curries. Only thing I could taste.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

Tinned pineapple usually tastes ok, as others have said, plenty of fluids, your appetite will come back slowly.0
