train ticket splitting advice

Hi,


Looking to book return tickets from Edinburgh to Sheffield.


Normally travel on the West Coast line when going down south, splitting at Preston/Wigan/Warrington, but rarely use the East Coast line.


Can anyone advise on the best stations to split tickets at on this line, to save me a bit of time when searching for the best fares?

Try the trainsplit website for ideas. No need to buy your tickets from them.

Have tried them before, but found they didn't seem to find the cheapest deals.

Well at least they'll show you that York is a possibly beneficial splitting point.

I agree that group of websites aren't all that effective. Indeed sometimes their description of the savings is false.

Passing through my area, some of the Cross Country advance fares can be (surprisingly) actually cheaper to buy on the day of travel. I don't know if that happens elsewhere on their network, but it might be worth exploring.
