Why has the FTSE fallen 10% this year back to level last seen in 1999 ?

And further more do you good people see it falling or rising over the rest of 2018?

It's what it does. Maybe up, maybe down this year.

It was part of a global decline, not just the FTSE and actually did not fall as much as you suggest (as has been said). There are multiple reasons including (but not restricted to) a fear of global economies over-heating/inflation rising faster than expected; fears of global trade wars; rising bond yields of some governments meaning these bonds were more-attractive than stocks & shares.

Will it fall or rise? If I knew the answer to that with any degree of certainty I, like you, would not be posting on forums like this. It could have been a correction OR it could rise, there's no way of knowing. IMHO we will see a gentle recovery rather than a rebound but I could well be wrong.

Dont forget the impact of the currency recovering.

Dont really care. I tend to focus on mid caps for UK equity and the UK allocation is just a small part of the portfolio.

UK investors are shunning UK shares. Been chasing the FAANGS instead. Though they too appear to have met headwinds coming from different sources.

    Yes, almost definitely.
[With a tiny chance of it staying the same.]

    Why ......
Markets fluctuate, what is there to puzzle about. The last blow up in the markets left us with the foundations of the current boom, QE.
Everybody knew QE was crazy, everybody realises it has not boomed the markets on anything other than a foundation of sand, but this boom still has legs on it......for now.

What you need to be asking is how do you crystallise any gains you have made. Just carrying on with more of the same and your fingers crossed is going to blow up in your face sooner or later. Cheap and easily available money is going to disappear soon, then the leveraging comes undone, just like over ten years ago..._

Anyone that thinks the only way from here is up, or that another "correction" is not long overdue, has some damned good rose coloured glasses.
