Temp work during days off

I have a lot of holidays (10 days) to use up from my main job before the end of April, and am wondering what I could do to earn some extra cash. I live in London, and don't have the finances to go away anywhere. I do bar work at a local stadium but unfortunately, there is only one match on in April. Has anyone got any ideas? Dreading having to take time off as I tend to mope around the flat. I'm taking it in ones and twos so as not to get into any bad routines, but will have to take a whole week as well. I can be flexible with the leave too. Thanks

Can you not cash some in?
  • Do half days for the annual leave as you love work so much? Right down to being a don't use = lose it. Or carry it over should your work policy allow.

Not sure about suggesting other work having not seen your contract - pretty much all of mine has said other work not permitted without express permission, if caught you will be dismissed etc. And having seen other people lose their jobs or be deemed rude for due to wanting to take accrued leave - please forgive me I don't see the problem of moping around - you could have other problems or be going on a permanent holiday for having time off when all you did was take annual leave.

Not lawful to pay for holidays included in the statutory 5.6 weeks except when you leave employment and have accrued more holiday than have taken.

Not all employers allow workers to sell their additional contractual holidays back to the employer.

That's why I asked if she could, I didn't say "Cash them in."

Can you work overtime in the same week you take holiday.

it's a way round the employers can't pay for unused statutory holiday

Where did you say you were asking about selling additional contractual holiday? The OP didn't mention they had anything above statutory entitlement.

You need a holiday .... any chance of getting bar work/similar at a festival in the latter half of April? That way you'd get away, with accommodation and a job/pay. It'd be just like a proper break.

Sorry for late response, I suffer from moderate depression. I work in the public sector so no chance of cashing my days nor is there any overtime anymore. There doesn't seem to be any issues with having a second job, I have colleagues who do just that. I've been struggling to motivate myself this weekend to do anything constructive; actually looking forward to going into work tomorrow!

You could ask about for additional bar or waiting work, or could contact a temping agency to see if there is anything for that specific week. Is the bar work you do via an agency? Could you speak to whoever is your manager in that job and ask about any other venues / events they work with and whether there are any extra hours going? And indeed ask other part time staff whether they know of any

Alternatively, if the issue of more about feeling you have nothing to do rather than desperately needing the cash, the other way to look at it would be to plan the time as a holiday, rather than leaving it in case inspiration strikes - e.g. making specific plans to visit (free) museums, plan walks or days out in London, maybe book a couple of things so you have something to look forward to, whether that is a cinema trip, manicure / massage, theatre trip or day out in the country.

depending on your living arrangements you could make specific plans for any projects around the house which you've not had the energy for.
