G59 application

Options
Hi there

I'm toying with additional panels on my garage /shed roof about 2.5kWp worth plus a second inverter will be a DIY installation with no intention of claiming fit

Already have 4.5 on the roof now so this will definitely put me into g59 territory.

Few questions

The inverter I'm looking coming out in may is g83 certificate but also at has a zero export setting if I use this do I still need g59 for this setting as hidden

How easy is it to get ?

What's the punishment for not having it if they catch you

You can contact the DNO yourself and ask for advice. They won't be able to give you a yes, but they may be able to say it's definitely not a no if they may be minded. Or they may say it will be a no, and that'll give you a better idea.

If the inverter has some clever trick, then see if the DNO are aware and if it has been approved to make sure export (rather than generation) is capped at 3.68kW. I mean approved by one or more DNO's.

I know there are some large scale devices, along the lines of EMMA GVS for big systems, but I don't know about approval for smaller single phase devices.

Long answer - If you don't tell them, then working backwards you will not be able to use a 'proper' installer as they are unlikely to do this. From that point you will have an unauthorised grid connected system, that could put workers at risk, and will mostly likely void your buildings insurance (even if a major claim had no link to the electrical work). I'm only guessing, but if you 'mucked about' with PV, then perhaps that could have a retrospective impact on FiTs for your existing system. You will also tar all other PV'ers.

    Short answer - don't, please don't.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.
