What's the best thing you've got on Freecycle?

Freecycle works both ways for me - giving and receiving. I've donated all sorts of stuff, clothes, kitchen table, Ikea chairs (Peong, I think they're called - originally came from Freecycle, and donated back when I no longer needed them), crockery, books, and various other items.
Apart from the Peong chairs, I have received a few things as well. My granddaughter loves her toddler sized bed. Once she has finished with it (unless my daughter has another child first), it will be donated to someone else. I donated her highchair that I had for my house, as she rarely used it. Hopefully someone else benefitted.
Perhaps one of the best things that I received wasn't actually something that I had gone to pick up though. I'd gone to collect a bag of wool, to use with my Rainbows and Brownies. The lady that I collected from was quite interested in my volunteering, and asked if we could use a stack of Percy the Park-keeper magazines that had belonged to her own child. There are so many activities that we have been able to use with the Rainbows, and they take up very little space.0 -
I'd also like a version that didn't require I sign up to Yahoo. I had to leave in the end as my email kept getting hacked (I don't have things to give away every day so didn't check my emails every day) and then it would send people spam or links that people actually thought were from me and dumped viruses or similar to their accounts. I now just give away on Gumtree because at least I don't have to be signed up to Yahoo.
Why not open an account with a gmail address? I have a special gmail address just used for Freecycle, another one for shopping and then my main one for friends/family and a fourth "odds & sods" one for everything else.0 -
I gave some packets of seeds away, on Freecycle and the lady who turned up to collect them, gave me 12 free range eggs from her chickens.Sealed pot challenge member 4370

You no longer need to use a Yahoo email address now that all Freecycle groups are hosted on the dedicated freecycle.org website and servers.
Just go to https://www.freecycle.org to find your local group(s)."Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience." Anon.0 -

I've had (& given) some great stuff on Freecycle over the years but sadly I think articles like this fuel the endless over the top greedy requests that are making Freecyclers (and Freeglers) leave in droves. My local group is full of people wanting top-of-the-line goods and totally missing the point, which is KEEPING STUFF OUT OF LANDFILL. Yes you might bag some top quality items if you're in the right place at the right time, but I think Freecycle is suffering from these kind of articles.
It's also worth emphasising that usually if you're being given something then you need to be able to collect it.
I know this is a money saving site so it's relevant to talk about what people have received, but why not include a section on the most random stuff people have *given away*, to at least partly balance it out?
I gave away a metal garden shed once (when I upgraded to a bigger one). It was in more than 100 pieces but the guy who took it was confident he could rebuild it, rather him than me!
My mum offered at least a dozen pairs of knitting needles when she cleared out her craft stash - allowing a youth leader to teach their entire group to knit :-)
I used to work with someone who, on the side, collected white goods from freecycle to sell on. made a bit of money too - so much so that he reduced his working week to 4 days just so he can spend 1 day to collect and sell.
There must be something about white goods that attracts people, even broken ones. When my parents washing machine broke, my dad moved it outdoors so that its out the way - council was due to collect in a week for free but overnight it was stolen. The same thing happened to two other people I know and we all live in private roads or cul-de-sacs! I'd love an explanation for this.
Me personally, although I have looked on freecycle I've never gotten anything. It's difficult without a big car.0 -
