Twitter comp tricks

Anyone got experience of whether it matters or not if you retweet+ comment too or is a retweet just as effective
Also, if you comment near the end of the comp or not?
And does it matter if you are already following a company who has a comp or is it better to unfollow them so they notice you again when they have a new comp to enter?
Have these tricks (or any other) been successful for you?

If they ask for a Retweet (,RT) then just do that. You can reply with a courtesy tweet (great prize etc) after you've RT. If you mean RT & comment together then I don't think it goes through as a retweet (unless someone can clarify this).
It doesn't matter whether you post the beginning, middle or end of the competition the winner is chosen randomly.
I wouldn't keep following and unfollowing a company the only thing that may happen is that they will blacklist you from being able to follow them.
When they choose a winner of the person isn't following them then they'll simply choose another winner.
There are some competitions that are a one off. Every month I personally go through my following and if they haven't posted another competition then I do look at not following.0
