Managing multiple job offers

Hey guys

After being let go from work a few weeks ago, I am in a position where I have 4 interviews lined up for next week. Out of the 4, there are 2 that I don't really want to join unless I have no choice and those 2 are the interviews that come first. The other interviews are 1st and second 2nd stage interviews that won't lead to a job offer.

If I get offered a job at either of the first 2 I am interviewing for (which I don't want to join), what's the best way to put them off until I hear back from the others? I don't want to accept then quit as that will ruin the relationship I have with the recruiter and company.

One idea would be to tell them you have a holiday booked and wouldn't be able to start until x date. That would at least give you a bit of breathing space.

Are they likely to offer you the job there and then?

You could always say you were not expecting to be offered the job 'instantly' and ask for time to consider their kind offer.

Hope they take their time getting back to you? Get a bit laxe in answering calls or emails or just be strong in the decision the job isn't for you from the outset, that way you don't upset anyone. They could even have others lined up to see as well which may add on time. Recently I had someone offer a pretty instant next day interview but took 6 days deliberating.

I reckon a lot of people will use Easter to take their time in getting back to applicants anyway. I've been offered an 'assault course' of a job interview and I really can't see that being a same day decision unless it's a fail.

Good luck with yours - it all sounds exciting.
  • I have agreed it with my partner that if I am offered a new job, I will start the beginning of April.

Has anyone come across recruiters baiting a role then switching it out? I have on a number of occasions been in a situation where a recruiter mentions one salary only to find out at the end that the actual salary is lower than expected.

The reason I ask if for the two main roles where I have passed the initial stages for a face to face interview, separate recruiters mentioned that the role is not a "hard core" sales role and that it was more relationship management or entirely relationship management (which I was looking for).

Suddenly the roles have changed and it's all hardcore sales.
