Mortgage with a party named on another mortgage

Options
Hello

Me and my long term partner are wanting to get a mortgage. We have the deposit, the problem we face is my partner is named on another mortgage. He doesn't financially contribute towards the mortgage, his ex wife does everything but he had to remain on it because she can't take over the mortgage on her own. Because hes name on that mortgage no company will consider us. Has anyone got any tips or advise to help. I'm gutted because my future is being controlled by my partners ex wife. Thanks in advance

    Who has told you this?

I would expect the amount you can borrow to be affected, but not ability to get a mortgage full stop.

  • Unfortunately my partner has signed a consent order which says his ex wife will "best endeavors" remove him from the mortgage. She doesn't work and doesn't have anyone to go on the mortgage meaning the chances of him being removed are slim. We have been to see a mortgage advisor that said no one would lend to us because he's still on another mortgage and although he doesn't pay anything towards it the lender would still have to see him afford to mortgages.

    Are their children involved?

Did this "advisor" mention anything about lenders who would treat the other mortgage payments like a loan, which as I stated would have an effect on affordability but would not prevent a mortgage being obtained?

If he isn't paying the mortgage and she doesn't work who is paying the mortgage?

  • There are 2 kids involved. The mortgage is on interest only and the goverment pay the interest as she doesn't work.
