I belive you do just ring the water board. When mine was fitted, I think I had two bills ( about a year) to decide to have it removed. I'd ask the question when I call though to check.

Looked on their website and this cropped up. I am fairly sure that my house isn't "earthed" as an electrician couldn't change a light in the kitchen once.

My house could do with being rewired, but it's not something on the agenda for now as everything works, so why do anything about it?!

"When installing meters in properties built before 1996, it may be necessary to replace old metal pipes. Some older electricity systems still rely on the supply pipe providing an 'earth' - this is now prohibited. If you believe your property may have this system, you should contact a qualified electrician to ensure you have an adequate earth. Any costs involved cannot be reimbursed by Affinity Water."

That's a shame, but I see that it's not a current priority for you.

Good luck with it all. Will follow with interest.

I'm up to £473.29 in my pot of free money to throw at the mortgage on 1st April.

Should be able to almost reach my target of £500 by saving money on travel (if I got to a different stop, I save 50p, but it means more walking and depends on if I can jump on a fast train into London) and my dad paying for the remainder of the month for breakfast club.

I've had a few things on Facebook trying to sell them, but no one seems to want them. Might try eBay.

Other ways to put money in the pot is my girls have quit Brownies, but I have already allocated for the subs and I don't have to pay insurance for my dog which was allocated for as she sadly died last month. :(

Have spent a bit on groceries (I bulk buy things and then count the money as spent only when the item is opened).

    Crisps - £1
    Water - £1.50
    Teabags - £0.25.

Good luck Pollyanna! I'm a single Mum to my little boy, trying to overpay the mortgage as much as possible every month. It's not easy, but I try and make it into a little game which renews on each payday!

I recently downsized my mortgage by moving to an older (but bigger!) property so that I could go part time and not have to pay childcare. Definitely the right decision for me, but then I don't have London prices to contend with!

    Good luck with everything x

Thanks for your response. Haha, I do the same. Roll on 1st when I can spend time moving money to various places!

I have thought about doing the same re moving somewhere cheaper. My brother did when he moved out, but I'm settled here and my girls are happy in their school. He was just starting out (even though he's older).

Maybe around secondary school time or when I am made redundant, it would be something to think about.

Scary when you are on your own though. If you are in a couple, moving to a new area doesn't seem as bad.

And although it seems like the best thing to do moneywise, I've grown up in this area, so it's hard to move away from parents etc.

Oops, kinda forgot about my diary for a bit.

New month means I have put another £500 on my mortgage.

I have a spreadsheet which I tediously update as I don't know any fun&y formulas, but after working out how much I will have left on the mortgages at the end of each year, depressingly, at the end of 2045, I will owe only £5 than I did before I put the £500 on! Not sure why I can't get my brain around it, but it is what it is. Just have to keep plugging at it.

Think the £500 was the last I'll be able to put on for a while. I have done the calculations for my increased work pension pot and it is a bit depressing. But it is for my future. I was going to reduce my private pension, but now that I've done all the sums, I will leave it where it is at the moment. Might have rethink that next April when my contribution goes up to 5%!

Still have quite a bit of my budget left, but have put no petrol in the car yet this month and we are off to Haven next week.
