stopping AOL from taking more money

hiya,

I set up my parents with AOL dial-up.
I phoned up TWICE and cancelled the account, when we no longer needed it.

Both times they accepted that the account was closed.
They gave me a cancellation number.
They refunded the cost of a month's internet that they'd erroneoulsy charged after I'd cancelled.

Then, they charge me AGAIN.
How can I get them to do their !!!!!!! job and cancel it?
As I say, I have a cancellation number that they quoted me.
I don't want the hassle and expense of paying those clowns 5p per minute to do what they should have done in the first place?

The account was set up on a credit card. Can I cancel the payment on my end?
Is there an ombudsman that I can got to and claim compensation for the time and hassle?

It's an absolute disgrace to be treated like this.

Many thanks for ay reply.

Call them again. Ask to speak to a supervisor. They have made a mistake, but you need to give them chance to get it sorted.

What do you want to claim compensation for? Two phonecalls?!!
    Gone ... or have I?
  • I had this problem with aol, they had recharged me 3 times since I cancelled and it has caused me no end of hassle as at the mo i'm currently not working and money has been very tight so when they go taking money that is in the bank for other bills etc it IS a big pain in the a**!

Also why should you have to keep ringing them when it is there mistake, yes its not alot of money for a phonecall but when you are brassic and watching every penny it does wind you up.

I was lucky i didnt get any bank charges due to them taking the money out of my account when they werent supposed to, and fingers crossed this month they have got there act together!

    my point exactly.
Do you think that AOL would be rushing to reimburse anyone who did incur bank charges thru AOL's negligence?....please.

I say "negligence", but I doubt very much if aol make the same number of mistakes in failing to charge people.

Anyone know the freephone number of AOL?

  • Why not send them an email?
    You are obviously online.
  • I have tried to cancel my AOL subscription regularly by email and phone but every month they go and take the money out of my bank because they took the debit card number instead of the account number and sort code so its not like a direct debit and the bank claim that they can't stop it. Several times it has caused us to go over our limit and incurred charges, Bank has given me a phone number for disputed payments, but hasn't stopped them. Has anyone ever been able to cancel? How did you do it?

I had a similar issue with a credit card debit. Eventually, I reported the card as lost, then closed the account.
