I already have Orange Braodband, so am looking at the possibility of using them to replace BT for my land line. The initial scan of the call charges looks good, but what do you think? Does it make sense or even better, will it save me more money!
Thanks

I'm fed up with buying bacon or mince and finding that it has 10%, 15% or more water in it, which comes out of it when you try to cook it. This applies even to the highest-priced lines in supermarkets.
1. Since its being sold by weight, I'm being charged £1 for every 85p-worth of bacon or mince, since the water comes out when cooked.
2. It is impossible to fry. I'd like to see Jamie Oliver doing a Sainsbury's advert showing how to cook their bacon. Unless you stop every minute and drain the water from the pan and add more fat, you are BOILING the bacon or mince.
OK the water content is disclosed in small print on the back of the pack, but there is NO SUPERMARKET ALTERNATIVE - they all do it. It's a scam in which they all collude. Of course Jamie or another top TV chef would tell me to source my bacon locally, so I do, but I want to be able to buy water-free bacon in a supermarket.
I hated this as well. I bought a cheap Spong mincer from Ebay and now mince all my own meat, takes a couple of minutes and I am sure what is in it. The bacon is more difficult, I buy mine from the local farmers market when possible, but it is darned expensive.0 -

Hi.....Is Martin aware of this, could be one for him to get his fangs into.
27/09/07 was my 65th birthday and I officially retired. Having paid full stamp for all my working life DWP. advised me that I would qualify for a married man's full state pension of £87.30.per week plus small upgrading to contracted out payments, gross weekly payment £94.72.
I elected to have money paid monthy direct into my bank a/c. DWP. info. said that 28 day payment cycle starts from the first Monday in the month in my case would be from 1st Oct - 28th Oct. The money for the 28 days was duly paid in at the end of Oct. But what concerned me was that I retired on 27/09/07 and so was 3 days payment short,ie.28/9 29/9 30/9 I assumed that I would get notification from DWP advising me how the short fall would be paid to me.
To clarify matters I rang the DWP. I was told that pension calculations are taken from the first Monday after the birth date, so I put it to them that what suited their payment arrangements did in fact leave me £40.59 out of pocket, the lady was apologetic and said that the system did not allow for any adjusting payments to be made whereas if I had been claiming invalidity payments (something my wife does) then payment caculations are taken from the actual birth date, she also mentioned the I was not the first to raise this point, for some it would be for a greater amount of days, some less. She then went on to say that my oap. christmas bonus of £10 would be paid into my bank,to which I replied that it couldn't be a bonus as I was already down some £40. she also confirmed that this anomally did not appear to be mentioned in any of their literature
So is the goverment working a nice little scam in that they are trumpeting all the good news about christmas bonuses and winter fuel payment etc. whereas they are just redistributing what they have withheld from pensioners the first place?
Has Martin come across this before or am I just missing something, apart that is, for the £40. ??????????.regards oap650 -
Hi all
I recieved a text message from Vodafone informing me I could have a free phone with free line rental...yipee I thought.:T So duly rang about the offer and spoke to a nice young lady who told me the offer works as follows:
You sign up to pay a monthy contract fee of £40.00 for 18 months and every quarter they refund you £120.00. From what she told me you don't even have to take out insurance! I politely told her of the old addage of 'you get nothing in this life for free' but she was adamant it wouldn't cost me a penny.
Needless to say I didn't take up the offer for the time being.
I'm sure you'll want to check this out, this is the number I had to ring

Hi Tommy,
This seems to be a third party company not Vodafone directly - as I think you have suggested. With regards to companies such as this I'd also advise you contact Vodafone (or in different situations the company the message claims to be from) to validate this if you feel at all unsure.
You can also deal with the company directly (Vodafone customer service is 191 from your handset or 08700 700191) to avoid dealing with third party companies if you wish.

Also, unlike cardboardfish there are no pop up ads and the message looks like it was sent from your own phone. Hi
I received a cheque from Ikano for a loan which finished in Aug 05. The said i had overpaid 1 pound and a few pence and were sending just over 8 pounds to me to account for interest on this amount. Are they pre empting any money being reclaimed by sending this? I havent cashed cheque yet what do you think?0 -
Hello
I was reading your excellent teen cash guide and the thought occurred to me that talking about "borrowing" money when we have to pay interest on the money we borrow is completely ridiculous! In actual fact what we're doing when we "borrow" money from a bank and pay interest is hiring or renting that money.
I feel myself having a shift of consciousness. I've always sort of known this and wanted a better way to express it. But now I've thought of this way of phrasing it, it's made me more determined than ever to live within my means and pay of my damn credit card debt.
Best wishes,

HI Martin
I'm sure the PDF document regarding the teen cash class is great for most adults but why not split it down into text messages. Teenagers communicate mainly by text so a money saving 'teensaver text' every day might make a difference to lots of teenagers.
