Do lenders scrutinise statements line by line?

Options
Just that really-how much scrutinising is done in bank statements when applying for a mortgage?

Had to give 6 months statements for our mortgage application. Was hoping it'd be 3 months.

We have been aggressively attacking our debt and put it to zero, so our statements look a bit crazy. Totally not representative of us generally.

It depends on the lender, most are just looking for gambling transactions, bounced direct debits and living in an overdraft and that you have no undisclosed regular commitments.

Some will look at things in minute detail. If you have used a broker and they have gone to one of those lenders, I would expect them to go through your bank statements a lot more.
