Veg Steamer recommendations please

I'm finding that cooking with gas seems to be far more expensive than using the electricity (I use the slow cooker a lot), and also as I have fibromyalgia I sometimes find my hands are too weak to be coping with heavy pans. I'm wondering if a veg steamer is a good buy. I figure plastic is much lighter to wash and also if I can do rice in it, that would help as I always burn rice. There are so many different kinds ...I remember years ago I had one but it didn't cook the veg very well at all. Any recommendations ?
I should probably add I'm cooking for 4 children so needs to be fairly decently sized.

I have a cheap 3 tier one ,I don't use it much mainly Xmas or when I have a big meal to cook, I should use it more it came with a rice steamer but I've never tried it.
Mines a tefal steam cuisine, it has a basic dial timer.

I have a 3 tier one, but it is gas hob sort. Works OK but veg does take longer than boiling itEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0

I have a two tier one that you plug in. It's donkeys years old and was just a supermarket cheapy. The only downside is washing it up as bits of veg gets stuck in the holes!
Also bought a sistema one for the microwave as it was cheap online at john Lewis. Prices went up the next day so I suspect I got lucky and it was a mistake. It's also really good but not as fast as I had hoped.0 -
I don't bother with my 3 tier now, only 2. Found the top tier didn't cook, particularly if there was a lot in the first one. Very disappointing at Christmas. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

Thank you to everyone who helped. I found one late last night that had pretty good reviews so have ordered it and will try it and seeDebts Jan 2014 £20,108.34
