Halifax AIP/No Broker Accepted

Hi,
I know I'm going to get a lot of go through a broker. But after going through a broker, he came back and told me Halifax is my best option. Problem is before we even started the process I had an online AIP with Halifax for £244k.
So I decided to go back and call Halifax myself doing another AIP today, they came back with the same decision, but as other will tell me I had to go through a proper check. So I called went through affordability properly. Disclosing everything in full especially a credit card of £5500 that I have.
We did the check and I got the AIP for the £237500 I needed and only 5% deposit which I needed as well, with the only caveat that I paid back the £5500 credit card before completion.
So my question is, please don't shoot me down. Why should I pay a broker £500 or the estate agent broker who wants £500 on application. Not knowing if I will get that offer elsewhere and jeopardise the Halifax deal? If I do a full credit check with another lender it could be the thing that makes Halifax reject me or raise my deposit amount, whereas now they are very happy with all my credit for 5% deposit.
It is a genuine question, not that I don't value a broker, I just haven't had good experience chasing my broker around.

The halifax AIP is not really that reliable. That does not mean it is wrong, just that it could change.
As for why you should pay a broker, I am not here to say you should or should not use a broker. But a broker will manage your application and help you resolve any problems and offer advice and guidance along the way. If you do not value that service at £500 then do not do it.
Also, I do not blame you for not wanting to outlay £500 at application stage with no idea whether or not you will get accepted.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. At this stage could a broker take over? Or would they start from scratch again?0 -
You only have an AIP from them, it is only a soft footprint so a broker can take over and there will be no detriment to you.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
