Had odd letter off hrmc asking for birth cert - no reason given, upon contacting find it is National insurance who say cannot verify date of birth? and do not know why they are asking for it, yet the other department I spoke to before said everything is fine?
Have to take birth cert job centre to verify?
Not on tax credits or uc .
They say happens to lot of folk? so none the wiser?
Anyone here know?

Could be someone has invertinley used your NI, and they are trying to confirm they have the right person. Ie they should be using ab123564d but they have used ab123455d instead, which is you, so they have to make sure that they have the right person. It happens, mainly when somebody is known by anothet name but not the name on the birth certificate, so at times HMRc tell them to use another number not realising that that person is knowing by another name. Hmrc and National insurance are two separate entities and. It allow to tell each other info.0

ah thanks, I got married a few months ago so that may have added to confusion -I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0 -
It can be for a number of reasons, from simple human error when setting up records/form filling, to mixed records cases.
If HMRC have received something which shows a different date of birth to that which is shown on your records, and the record holds what is supposed to be a 'verified' date of Birth, then HMRC will need to ascertain which is the correct date.
Its quite important for them to have the correct date as it can effect entitlement to age related benefits/allowances, i. e State Pension.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.
