DS2 has a 3 week field trip to a marine biology research station. He has a small baggage allowance and his washing stuff must be eco friendly/bio degradable. I've seen ecover do stuff for washing clothes, and faith in nature do body wash and shampoo. To save space I'm wondering if he could just take a shampoo to wash hair, body and hand wash clothes? Would that work?

Don't see why not, you really only need something that will lather up a bit to handwash clothes. My late Mum when she had a job finding stuff to wash our hair with years ago grated up a bit of the big bar of green fairy soap to wash our hair with Didn't kill us, and we had clean hair,it was also used grated up to handwash odds and ends with Soap is soap after all0

I have a bottle of Pure Castile Liquid Soap, lavender flavour which does everything from from washing me top to toe, washing clothes and washing up everything else, wonderful stuff. I found mine seriously reduced in our local branch of TK MAX, maybe worth a look there? think it was £3 for a 500ml bottle and it lasts forever!0

Dr Bronner's = Horribly drying and sink/ pipe blocking. Also why it is terrible for hair. Why not just give him a bar of soap? Faith in Nature is great.
Whenever I travel, I just decant a small amount of laundry powder into a little container. Or, you could do the same with Wilko Liquid Soap? http://www.wilko.com/traditional-cleaning-/wilko-original-liquid-soapflakes-750ml/invt/0412410
Suitable for hand-washing. Haven't tried washing myself with it, but know people do use it for hand-washing.Minimalist
