    Thanks for the comments, to answer the questions, the additional 0.5%, to be honest I'm really not sure, I'll have to ask when I meet him next week. Currently the pension is with Aegon. I'm picking up hat this might be an acceptable fee, as it's quite a lot of money and I have no idea about how invest it or the skills needed

    If you know what you are doing, have the time, and are certain it will not cost you more money to manage it yourself, then you should. If you are not sure about those things, you are better off paying someone.

    It would have been cheaper for me to do my own dentistry.

    Yeah, that's a really silly analogy, isn't it? Aegon are already managing the OP's pension. Using an IFA isn't like paying a dentist. It's more like paying someone to select which dentist you should use.
