Nails and lash help

Options
Hey,

So I was "not very MSE" and used to have a 2 hour session at the salon having my nails, eyelashes and eyebrows done.

I've started doing my own nails, usually they snap so I had gel on them. I've been using the Sally Hensen Miracle Gel though and they seem to be going ok (but it doesn't last 2 weeks like it claims!)

I've also bought some (cheap) magnetic eyelashes from groupon which were "ok" (but I found they broke easily)

I know beauty school would be a cheaper alternative but I really need to cut down

So my question is this:

Can you recommend any REALLY good nail polish (without a UV)

Can you recommend any magnetic lashes?

Thanks

  • I like Stargazer and Barry M polishes - they have better colours and resilience (especially with a good base/ridgefiller and top coat) than many of the high end polishes and are incredibly easy to apply. Mavala are good, too, and come in small bottles so you aren't stuck with a huge, expensive colour that you don't like.

In terms of lashes, I think I'd splash out on individual extensions rather than magnetic ones. They last longer and you don't have to think about them too much once they're on.

In any case, whilst Moneysaving is good in many ways, sometimes it's better for the soul to have a few treats that make you feel good. In my case, it's getting my eyebrows done professionally - a few pounds given to a lady to thread them each fortnight is 'cheaper' than going round looking permanently startled on one side and terminally angry on the other. Moneysaving isn't worth it if you don't feel like smiling when you look in the mirror.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

I did have the individual ones but getting them done every 4 weeks made them look extremely gappy towards the end.

I do have treats :) I just think given that it was taking me 2 hours to have everything done and paying near on £80 every month for them I'd look at alternatives.

I'll have a look at the nail polishes you mentioned, thank you. The Sally Hensen one has last 2 days and has chipped on 4 nails already

I did chuckle at your "going round looking permanently startled on one side and terminally angry on the other" comments lol hopefully I don't look that bad! :)

Another vote for Barry M, I think it is the best of the budget ranges. Using a good quality base and top coat will help prevent chipping.

It’s a bit like painting your house. The better it is prepared, the better the results will be ;)

I've been using O.P.I. nail polishes which are excellent, I then discovered China Glaze nail polishes and with a base coat, 2 coats of nail polish and a couple of top coats it's lasting around 7-10 days....which is good for me as my nails are quite soft.

I agree L'oreal has non UV nail polish but if your looking for budget price go for Barry M. It has got some really good line of beauty products at very reasonable price.
