Newcomer Stakeholder Pension Question

Hi,
I'm a few months into my new job and I'm soon to begin my pension for the first time. The company offers a stakeholder pension scheme, however does not offer any sort of top up to the pot. Whenever I mention this to anyone, they keep saying something along the lines of if there is a minimum number of employees the company must legally match my contributions.
First off, is this the case and if so, what is the minimum number of employees?
Secondly, if this is untrue, would I be better starting a different pension scheme of my own?
Thanks for any help

five employees who pay national insurance and not including directors or owner/partners is the rule to have a scheme in place. However, there is no legal requirement for them to contribute regardless of the number of employees.
From 2012, the NPSS comes in and all employees will have access to it regardless of number of employees unless the company offers an occ scheme or group personal pension which matches or exceeds the NPSS.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
