bar code query

How can you tell if a bar code will scan against any product? Thanks.

Comments

  • Bar codes are designed for specific products.Money off coupons which scan start with 99 and if you ignore the last digit the previous 3 tell you the number of pence off. For example the latest Daily Mail half price internet moc is coded: 9914000396500 meaning a potential saving of £6.50.
It's only a potential saving since you have to find someone on the checkout to accept it(usually better at Tesco than others). You may then have a technical problem with the quality of the barcode itself. In fact the DM internet one is poor and won't scan. All is not lost though, sometimes a SA will input the numbers for you. If you're so inclined you can make your own clear scannable barcodes and cut & paste the scannable version in.An example of such a barcode generator can be found here.(remember to leave off the final 13th check digit):
