IPA query partner's income

Hi All,

bankruptcy has been agreed, my partner is on maternity leave and her income is £610, total household income is £2858.01 with household expenses totalling £2857.88.

The O.R has asked if my partner has her own personal expenses not included (she does have a credit card balance of £250, an outstanding amount owed to the tax office of £500, along with fuel costs of approx. 80-100 a month)

Basically will be operating at a bit of a deficit. Im not sure how they work out whether IPA applicable or not - looking at it our household budget wouldn't allow for it but it is making my head spin a bit. Anyone able to advise?

Thanks

    Hi there

The OR will ask for a joint household budget sheet to ensure that you and your partner split the household bills fairly. For example if you earn the same amount they're split 50/50, if one person has a higher income they should pay proportionally more of the bills.

The OR will then look at how much of the household surplus is yours personally. If it is £20 or more they will take all of your surplus for 3 years. Whilst they won't take into account your partner's debt payments, all normal outgoings such as fuel should be included.

If the OR accepts your outgoings are reasonable it doesn't sound like you will be asked for an IPA at this stage. But remember you have to declare any change in circumstances until you are discharged, or if an IPA is made, any changes during the 3 years it lasts.
