Loan company didn't lift payments

Hi just some advice if you have the time please
I've a loan with Sainsburys and called them on 25th Sept to change my direct debit details, they stated that it was too late as I had a payment coming out on the 1st October but they would be set up for November. I'd had the loan for 2 years with no issues, so never checked after this.
Last week I got my annual statement and saw that they hadn't lifted my direct debit since October. They've never set up the direct debit and they've never contacted me either. I've never missed a payment, in fact I over pay as I want it clear asap.
So I've called them today and they said they see I called on 25th, the issue was they post dated the change of details until 2nd October after my payment was received and on they 4th October they received a direct debit cancellation from my bank which stopped the set up of the payment. I can't understand this, I never cancelled the payment with the new bank account, as it was never set up, however would agree my old bank account would have been cancelled.
They have apologised, and they asked me what would I accept to have this resolved, they offered my £50 as a goodwill gesture. I've no idea, should I calculate how it affects the interest I pay which is 8.9% or just accept this and move on and be glad I have the money in my account to cover it

Get them to take the missing payments but ask them to adjust the interest that has been charged to the loan - to put you back to the position as if this had never happened.0
