Is the PM's Housing Policy Stalinist?

Theresa May has just announced the same housing policy as Ed Miliband did in 2015 when he was leader of the opposition. However, The Daily Mail called Miliband a "Stalinist" for it. Under May, it's a "brand new dawn".

Hmm, the Mail seems to be spending most of its column inches fawning over its readers' betters at the Oscars today...
If you manage to scroll past the VERY plunging necklines with which important people POUR THEIR CURVES then it seems to be incandescent with rage about Angela Merkel being reappointed as German leader.
It's sent some photographer into Turkish areas of Berlin and Dusseldorf where POLICE ARE AFRAID TO TREAD due to all the LAWLESS FOREIGN SCUM that left wing thinking has inflicted on the once proud country of um... Hitler.0 -

Safe to say TM doesn!!!8217;t really know how housing development works and also doesn!!!8217;t appreciate there are thousands of housing markets, not one.
The solution for an area where building a house costs twice as much as it will sell for - heavily polluted brownfield sites in former industrial towns and cities - is different to areas where homes are too expensive for first time buyers.
If she wants more houses the public sector need to have a cheque book to be in control of the process, not fiddle with the market with threats in the hope developers will become philanthropists and build homes for no return.
If this means giving billions to work up developments on brownfield sites, in partnership with private developers so be it. If you control the purse strings you have control over the development.
She should be looking at what Homes and Communities Agency, now Homes England, has failed to deliver over the last 5-10 years and really see how not to do it.0 -
The state fails expensively at pretty well everything it does, so why would state housing be any more successful?
Who needs more of this?

The state merely has to pay for what it wants. It does not need to be in control of designing or building the houses, thats what housebuilders do.
The state contracts with the builders to build houses where the state wants in the timescale they want. It really isn!!!8217;t difficult.0 -

Max Mosley vs The Daily Mail: Is there a way they could both lose? :rotfl:0 -

Winston Churchill was a heart-bleeding Liberal, Nigel Farage married an immigrant, the Conservatives have current members of both the Commons and the Lords who have used the n-word in a derogatory manner in their respective parts of Parliament without being expelled from the party, Gordon Brown was once revered by the City as great economist, some stupid and/or lazy people are rich and some hard-working and/or intelligent people are poor.
The world takes all kinds.0
