Kids Bikes? Advice please

Christmas brings a new bike for our eldest (she's 8).
I'm planning to get her a 20" one, and would like to spend no more than £125 (they grow out of them so quick!).
I don't want to buy junk though, so am considering a decent make. There's quite a few different manufacturers these days, so was hoping anyone could give me advice on which is a good one to go for?
Any thoughts on Dawes, Raleigh, Barracuda, Saracen?
Also, any good places to buy from online?
Cheers for any help

hi, i have three kids from 8 to 17, so have been buying kids bikes for at least 14 years now. i have tried a lot of different makes and am always told they are good quality and will last , however the only ones which do imo are raliegh , other makes i have bought (some of them more expensive than raliegh ) have rusted or needed replacement parts or repares. i wouldn't consider buying anything else now especially for the kids who we all know can be hard on bikes. you should be able to find a great bike in their range for your money. my own eight year old got a top of the range raliegh with free bag, y frame, suspension, sparkle brake cables and silver sadle for £110 last christmas and it still as good as new.:rotfl:"that grady! won't sit next to a black child in church! but eats eggs, shoot right out a chickens !!!!!!" from fried green tomatoes:rotfl::smileyheaMSE is where my friends live :smileyhea0

Hi i would say exactly the same as "small packages" i too have a son of 8 and he has had 3 bikes all of which have been Raleigh, only reason for buying new ones has been as he has outgrown them!!As you will know kids always end up dropping the bikes on the ground etc and my son is the worst for it:( But his Raleigh bikes have always coped with it/and all the rest of the abuse kids subject them to!:) The last on i got him was £100 and that had front and back suspension,Y frame etc and though it is 11 months old now it is like the day i got it!
My parents always bought me Raleigh bikes as well and sometimes for not that much more cash they are really worth it!!!So in all i would say they are a same, sturdy bike and more than worth there money!!
Hope that helps!!:DThought for today:-
There comes a time in your life when you realise who matters, who used to matter and those that never did;)
:T Now facing my debts instead of hiding from them!:T
Thanks to everyone on here than has helped me through my darkest days!:D0 -
Have just bought my son a 20" bike, there are some great deals on Amazon, but we got ours from Cycle King (cycleking.co.uk) as they ordered into our nearest store so he could try it out, they've got some really good deals on too, his was an Ammaco 7 speed full suspension aluminium frame, £90
This one looks great for a girl, and at £55 seems a bargain. Couldn't persuade my boy to have a pink one tho! :rotfl:
