Hi everyone,
My son has just received an inheritance cheque from his great uncles solicitors. It is in the name of "Parents of sons name"
Can this cheque be paid into his current account or will it have to go via his mothers or my account first ?

Think it has to go to you or his mother initially as he can't inherit until he is 18. You are supposed to hold it for him which is why the solicitor addressed it to you but best to speak to your own bank£2 Savers Club for 2022 #120

I would return the cheque to the solicitors as the way its written MAY make it impossible to bank.
The cheque should be in the name of the parent (full name) or the solicitor should open a trust account until such time as the child is old enough to inherit.0 -
I think that you may have difficulty depositing this cheque.
It would seem that you and your husband need to open an account "in bare trust" for your child until he is 18.
You can then return the cheque to the solicitor and ask him the solicitor to make the cheque payable as specified by the bank or building society.

As well as our special accounts for children, you can open some Coventry
savings accounts For children, as a joint account with children, or keep
money in a trust. If you're interested in doing this, or want to find out more
about the accounts we're offering at the moment, talk to our specialists at
any branch or call 0800 121 8899.
Does your son have a CTF/JISA? It would be possible to transfer money from the Trust Account to the CTF/JISA as appropriate.0 -
Did the solicitor not write to you / your son to confirm the bequest details and to ask to whom the cheque should be paid.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
