in Cutting tax
Hi guys. I'm in need of any advise here.
I've just received my 2nd payment of my new job. The first month my tax code was 1150L W1 which I'm guessing was because they didn't have my p45 at that point. I got paid today my tax code is 1158L but I've been deducted nearly £500 in tax. I spoke to the HMRC and the lady told me that my work place was issued a tax code due to underpaid tax. (Where from I have no idea) but my employer didn't issue the code so what I owed got taken all at once. She stated that my next wages would be okay.
Has anyone heard of this before? The tax code is the same as my previous employer so I just find it odd.
Thanks.

When was your last pay day with your old employer and when was the first with the new. Your tax code has increased so what HMRC told you was either rubbish or you misinterpreted it. What most likely happened was you got paid twice in one month which used your tax free allowance for that month twice, the P45 and first payslip will have the same month code. This would result in an underpayment of £191 tax, the first payment after the submission of the P45 would collect that.0

My first pay was 2nd Feb. I received a wage from my previous employer 20th Feb. I'm guessing cause I was paid twice in one month it kinda screwed everything up.
Tax confuses the hell out of me. So I'm hoping all will be okay for my next wage.

The issue you have encountered crops up on here fairly regularly.
Nothing has really gone wrong you have just been surprised by the tax on your second pay received in one month.
Kind of a nice problem to have really
If you post the totals from your latest payslip (new job) and expected taxable pay due in March it should be possible to say what tax will be deducted using the tax code 1158L.0 -
I'm just happy that I'm not the only one who has encountered this. It really threw me.
Thank you for the reassurance.0
