I paid 30p at Waverley a few weeks ago, can I get a refund? Or is it a case of (to be read in a Morningside accent) "you'll have had your pee?".
  • Not happening until 2019.

It's incredibly outdated. It's a natural body function we can't control.

Europe, especially Eastern Europe, is ardent in charging. it's archaic and wrong to charge for using a toilet.

While I agree 100% , I do understand why some places charge, the way people abuse the facilities it must cost money to have someone constantly cleaning the toilets, replacing broken taps, mirrors, locks, hand dryers etc.
I have a public toilet facility where I work and what people do in there blows your mind.

The cynic in me says that they have analysed the revenue they get versus the extra cost of staffing, maintaining equipment, higher cleaning standards etc. over free facilities, and found it will be far cheaper to stop charging and reduce the staffing and standards.

Yeah but we've all been in situations where we've been in desperation and no one lets you, including those people who have the facilities and charge. It's such a small minority of people who leave it messy, and it doesn't matter whether they've used the place or not, if they are that way inclined they don't care either way. And it wouldn't necessarily be someone who hasn't used the facility but wants to use the toilet who would brake a tap or mirror, not that I've ever even seen those things happen.

Too true. Once worked in a place where somebody literally sprayed the entire contents of a 75 cl bottle of Tia Maria around the whole gents.

I was the guy who was given a mop and bucket to clear it up. I have never touched a glass of the stuff since.

Then you have not been around the public enough.

Being the onsite jack of all trades, strange thing is I was constantly having to do running repairs to the ladies toilets. You would have thought it would have been the other way around.

Great, now all train station loos will be full of homeless people doing their laundry and junkies shooting up.

Wont make much difference as there are only 18 NR managed stations where this will apply...
