PPI on a car loan taken out 18 years ago

Options
Hello,
I believe that I would have paid PPI on a car loan that I took out in 1999/2000. Unfortunately I do not have the paper work for this and the only information I can find is direct debit to FAFS. However, I am unable to find out who FAFS was. Has anyone any idea on who this company might be or if there is anyway to proceed with this?
thanks

Car dealers were not regulated until 2005 and could dismiss any complaint on that basis alone.

So with or without paperwork you are unlikely to get very far with this.

You are not even certain if you had PPI.

The direct debit would not be to the car dealer. So, knowing who FAFS is wont help you as you woudlnt direct the complaint to them anyway. Even if it was post regulation.

I am assuming that FAFS were the loan company rather than the car dealer where I bought the car, which I don't believe still exists.
I'm not certain that I was (mis)sold PPI but as this was quite common practice at that time, I am assuming that I may have been, so thought it was worth looking in to. However, I suspect that this isn't going to go very far.

But it is the car dealer that matters. Not the lender.

Not with it being pre-regulation and the car dealer not being around to answer the complaint.
