Broker or direct application. Which is quicker?

Morning All,
So our current situation is thus:
Middle of a fixed term with Virgin. Offer accepted on house, and M.I.P from lender received.
We put the offer in on the house on 16th Feb.
Called Virgin on 20th Feb for an appointment to sort out porting the existing mortgage and topping up.
The earliest they could book us in for an appointment was 28th Feb, which was then cancelled due to staff shortages (snowing).
Our next appointment is now 6th March earliest.
That's now a fortnight since the original call, and both of us are starting to worry that the seller will go elsewhere due to the unnecessary delays.
Virgin haven't been much use on the phone, and cannot speak to us earlier.
My question is, would it be better for us to go down the route of using a broker, instead of dealing with Virgin directly? Having spoken to one, we can go in this afternoon, with all of our relevant paper work and get the application submitted by the end of this week.
Would this be a better option? At the moment we are just eager to get things moving before the seller loses interest.

Broker without doubt would be quicker.

Funnily enough, about 10 minutes after posting this, Virgin called through with a cancelled booking. Ended up going through it all with them, with the application form en route by email today.0
