Paid one month in arrears

Hello
I started a new job on 9th Jan as a Casual Pupil Support assistant and was told that I would be paid one month in arrears. We have to submit our hours up to the 24th of each month to payroll department before the 27th for payment on the 28th. As I started part way through Jan I was told those hours would be paid at end of February but having submitted my hours for Jan and Feb I have now only been paid at the end of Feb for January's hours and I am really confused as that effectively means I am working two months before I get paid for 1, is this correct??

That's what a month in arrears means int his case, you are a 'month behind' so you get paid at the end of the following month for the preceding months wages.0 -
Suspect you're getting confused between 'paid monthly in arrears' and 'paid one month in arrears'
"Monthly in arrears" usually means paid at the end of the month you've worked, like you thought.
"One month in arrears" usually means paid the month after the month you've worked. Which is what seems to be happening here, and is perfectly correct.0 -
You need to ask for
Pay periods - the dates that form a pay period
Pay dates - the date that pay periods gets paid.0
