I really feel for you, that must be horrible. I don't blame you at all - we all think we can manage it at first.
Can't give you any expert advice but I guess the first thing to do is to get him on board. Good luck and well done for plucking up the courage.0 -
Hi there, Sufferinginsilence, well done for admitting to yourself and having your moment of realisation. Your post totally resonated with me because I was you four years ago. My debt was in the £50,000s and I was I turmoil over whether to tell my OH about it. In the end I didn't and sorted it out myself. It's doable. Four years later, I'm down to owing just over £9,000 on interest free small payments. Please do not consider selling your home to pay off the debts. Take a deep breath and give Stepchange a ring. They will give you great advice and point you in the right direction of how to set up a debt management plan. The NEDCAB site also has tools to help you budget and work out how much you can afford to pay creditors.
I found great help on these boards, reading other diaries and having the support of others on here. Have a look at my diary, Reeling from the Reality Check. It might help, especially the early posts because I was in exactly the same boat as you. There is a way out and you don't have to sell your home to pay off the debts. All the best! I'll subscribe. xFeb 2014 to now
