Well, try to keep your hands on your pence on Thursday, OBL.......that Swedish emporium can get a bit tempting....tho it sounds like you are more concerned with shedding possessions atm, rather than buying loads of new ones!

And hi to everyone else. Not as cold here today & dry, so I've had a lovely couple of hours sorting out my half of the shed (now the lovely tidy side!) & guess what else? I'm off the blocks with this year's seed sowing. Yay!! Chillies sown & sitting in my little heated propagator & 2 packs of free flower seed sown in greenhouse. Both are winter-sown varieties so the cold weather shouldn't be an issue.
While I was out there, I kept seeing heaps of resources lying around. Because of everything that happened with my Mum, then losing her, I didn't really get a chance to shut the garden down so there is all sorts of stuff lying around waiting to be re-used this year. Have also spotted a few self-seeded freebies, so I will pot them up & use them to fill up any gaps in the flower borders. And a little robin serenaded me throughout, from the top of our old apple tree.
I'm aiming really to throw myself into gardening & our food growing this year. After last year, it will be blimming good therapy!
    Cheers all,
    F x

  • Don't worry, the thought of actually buying anything is making me feel quite ill :rotfl:I'm supposed to have been buying some new shoes for work since Christmas but I still haven't done it because I just don't want to spend the money :A

I can't wait to get out to sort my garden ou this year,it's a bit of a mess at the moment because I've literally let the chickens have free rein all winter and they trash the garden,it's all salvageable though but I'm caught up with the house at the moment so it will have to wait

My garden's the same, OBL It didn't get cleared & 'shut down' properly at the end of the growinf season in 2017 because my Dad died & we had lots to do with sorting everything out & arranging extra visits to support Mum, etc. I was getting back on track last year, then lost Mum too, so the garden just kind of stopped. I prioritised harvesting all our fruit & veg, but that was all I was able to do, & a big project out there that mr f hoped to have finished by November at the latest is still very much unfinished. I know we'll catch up....even just sowing my chilli seeds the other day felt like I'd made a start. I'd earmarked today for clearing a border & forking it over but it's chucking it down with rain here, so it will be indoor jobs only.
Never mind, we'll get on top of it.

Oooh, steady on Missis.....I've noticed myself feeling very drawn to clothes shops at the moment. I think it's a combination of the new season's stock coming in & being back on the dieting so not feeling like such a fat nacker! Was in town the other day, popped in a shop & spotted about 5 things I really liked. I don't need any new clothes at the moment so it would have just been one of those impulsive 'I deserve it' moments. Mr f suggested he buys me a gift card for my birthday to treat myself to something new & I think that's a good idea. It's 10 weeks away, so I'm likely to be a size smaller then too.
In the meantime, as I have lots of ironing to do today, & will be in & out of the wardrobe, I think I will have a trying-on session, including a few different combinations, as I do sometimes discover a new outfit that way.
Then I must get on with next week's meal plans & a good 'shop from home first' shopping list.
    Wishing everyone a productive day.

I have another suggestion for the end of cereal shavings - really when it has lost all structural integrity - I shove it in flapjack or shortbread or biscuits, either as it is or with a quick whizz through the processor.

  • Just letting you know I channelled my inner Foxgloves yesterday and sorted through our seed stash and ordered it by month of planting. Sorted out the little pots to put them in and got everything ready to plant with Pickle during half term when we get back from half term.

Oooh, 'structural integrity', Joeyjimbles, I shall say that to mr f next time he moans about powdery bits!

OBL - I don't get overly excited by storage, although I did have a big problem with buying endless baskets back when I was spendy.

WishTMA - Seedbox sorting is one of my favourite activities this time of year. Chillies already sown. Aubergines, tomatoes & peppers will be next on the veg sowing list.

  • I don't know why I'm coveting storage really because at the rate I'm going I won't have anything left to store :rotfl:

I must admit back in the day I too had a thing for a good basket :rotfl: I got rid of my last one today:j

I put one of my old baskets from the Spendy Years on top of our last bonfire, OBL, & it didn't half go up with a whoosh!

    Hello Sunday Savers,
Just a quick check-in to say I'm very much keeping the non-spendy faith. This weekend I've done a decluttering job which turned into a rather nice Shopping from Home Opportunity. I've been meaning to sort out my jewellery box for absolutely the longest time, but with all the chaos of the the last year or two, it hasn't even been on the list. Well, I tipped it out onto a big tray & began separating what had become one massive tangle into separate items. It was soon clear that I was going t have enough decluttered items for a charity shop bag......mostly costume jewellery type items which I've been given as gifts over the last decade or so, & althoough I've worn all of them, none have been worn as much as they would have been, had I chosen them myself. Does that sound ungrateful? I hope not, as it isn't meant unkindly, it's lovely of people to want to give me presents, but jewellery can be a tricky thing to buy for others, can't it? And trends change too, & also the ability of my ear piercings to hold large heavy hippyfied earrings. It took ages to separate everything out. But it was a really nice satisfying task too, because a bit of shopping from home kicked in, as I started finding old treasures I'd completely forgotten about. There were also broken items which only needed the smallest tweak with jewellery pliers to mend them, & in a couple of cases, I was able to cannibalise an item I didn't like to mend some pieces I would still like to wear. I also discovered that my jewellery box (which I treasure as it was made & inlaid with pretty patterns in different coloured woods, by my Grandad) was lined with a black beaded shawl which I thought I'd lost! Having looked at it, it had been in there so long I've gone off it, so it too was added to the charity bag, but I was able to re-line the box by cutting up a recycled Indian paper gift bag from my stash. It has given it a new lease of life & ne'er a pence spent! As for the shopping from home element, today I am wearing a pair of earrings with tiny chips of uncut emerald in & silver swirls, which Mum bought me when I was a student (a.k.a a VERY long time ago!) I haven't worn them for at least two decades because the fittings didn't really work in my ears with my long hair, but I swapped these with some from another pair I was throwing away & perfect! They are like new & I'm wearing them right now! As for the de-cluttered charity shop items? There are some nice things & while they are no longer for me, for various reasons, they may well be a nice little find for somebody else, so I look forward to dropping them off. Also found ....my Nan's old wedding ring which I though I'd lost & a single broken earring from a pair I received as a gift aged 18. I kept it for sentimental reasons as I absolutely loved those earrings, but having looked again from a shopping from home perspective, I can see that I can easily add a length of leather thonging & wear it as a pendant - it's quite striking, in purple & silver, & I think it will look fab with a black dress. So, all in all, a result!
Just wish the weather had been good enough for me to get out into the garden as well. Never mind, we'll see what the coming week brings.
    Love to all,
    F x
