Kantankrus_Mare wrote: »The curry sounds wonderful Foxgloves!!
Having grown butternut squash for the first time last year, I hunted down a recipe for a curry and we have made it twice since as it was so good. (And cheap!)
Recipe asks for one and a half packs of coconut milk so I am left with half a pack going to waste. Thought about freezing it but didnt think it froze well. I see you freeze yours. I hate the thought of wasting it so will have a go next time I have some left over.
Always freeze let over coconut milk and have even used it from frozen and it's fine0 -
Kanankrus & Purps - I haven't frozen this kind of coconut milk before (reduced fat tinned), but I can't see any reason why it would be a problem. If I make the Malaysian fish curry again, the coconut milk is simmered in a wok with the spices, paste, etc, first, so even ifbit separated a bit on thawing, it is all going to be simmered together. Am not expecting problems.2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever

Hi all,
Pleased to report I finished my warm jumper last night, sewed it together & am wearing it today.
Now, much as I love buying yarn (& I REALLY love it!) I'm not reneging on my decision to issue myself a challenge of NO new yarn purchases in 2019 (Gulp!). I have a large stash & I intend to knit it up into as many useful projects as possible.
Back in the day (oh dear, here we go!), I would have looked at this yarn stash & just seen one big heap of assorted leftovers & bits & bobs I don't want to knit with. Cue a trip into town for new yummy yarn purchase, pattern & new knitting needles. Always new knitting needles, despite having loads of them at home, because once I'd chosen the pattern & yarn, I could never remember whether I had the correct sizes of needles specified. So I'd buy more, just in case.....that instant gratification thing of wanting to get started straight away.
Now I have fully embraced the whole 'Shop from home first' agenda, I look upon my yarn stash quite differently. No longer is it a big tangled collection of barely wanted leftovers. It is a resource. And a good one at that. I am sure I can get at least two, maybe more, gifts knitted from the treasures within, as well as a few things for me, plus a few Christmas decorations (which I have sold in the past).
So my 2019 Stash Knitting Challenge begins here, today. I've just cast on a big pair of stripy hiking socks for mr f to wear around the house during the winter months. And so this, dear money saving readers will be Project #1. Watch this space for more.
Love to all,

:rotfl: hi from your evil knitting twin,I too used to look at my stash and the go off and buy more wool and kneedles for exactly the same reason, I ended up with a massive stash of wool
We had a new yarn shop open in my local area and they are a,so a bit of a community place who knit for refugees, they put out an appeal for wool last year so I gave them most of mine knowing I probably wouldn't use it,I kept some small balls and halfused ones to use for small projects but everything else went to their collection, they were very happy to take it as they had almost run out
I do have some sock wool that I bought ages ago that I keep meaning to do but I've not started them yet as I don't know how to knit socks and I don't understand the pattern I bought
I will sit down and try and do them though,it's a lovely self patterning woolOriginal Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,510 Owed = £11,1200 -
The self-patterning sock yarns are lovely. I knit heaps of socks. I've made so many pairs for mr f & I, to give as gifts & to sell, that I can knit 3 different sizes without looking at the pattern! Just cast on & have a go. It took me a couple of attempts & a huge tantrum before I got the hang of it, but once you suss it, it is all.straightforward x2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever

I have a little book where I have my needles listed. I am sure there must be a phone app or just a note on your phone? Then when you do look at patterns (or even shop) you know what you have.Debt at highest: £8k. Debt Free 31/12/2009. Original MFD May 2036, MF Dec 2018.0

I am a part time slow coach for fun knitter!! I make twiddlesmuff's for our local hospital (they help patients with demetia stay calm) - they're easy to make and can be made using an small bits of wool so are completely MSE!
For anyone who is a knitter they'd rattle one in a day or so....me...well I take three weeks or so to complete one but still love doing them.0 -
Hi WorkingMum, thanks for dropping by. I've never knitted a 'twiddlemuff' but I know what they are, so that's another possibility for this year's Stash knitting challenge. The first big hiking sock is coming on well. I'm using double thickness of black dk yarn (I seem to have loads of that) & am using up other 'not very useful' dk colours run double for the stripes. I shall probably get this one finished today & its pair cast on.
But first I must get the marmalade oranges I prepped yesterday onto the hob & simmering. This takes an hour & a half, so I intend to see how many jobs I can get done in that time.
Stay warm all - looks dank out & a chilly.night forecast for later.
