I have read The Salt Path & the second book by the author, both brilliant and eye opening. There is also a 3rd book now which I have just been given for my birthday - I am looking forward to reading it too, but will save it for the quieter days after Christmas.6

@kayannie - Always nice to know you have a good book (or a whole pile of them) waiting in the wings.

Hello my little festive stuffing balls,
Ohhhhh, what a busy day, but finally I feel we are about ready for our guests arriving tomorrow. Much as I like going into town when it's all festive, we decided that we'd need to divide our labours this morning, so Mr F went to the market for sprouts, parsnips, carrots etc from a local farm stall, then to the bakery, to take the recycling, etc, while I cracked on with baking snowball pecan cookies. I part-made the dough in the food mixer this time & it was much quicker. I was going to bake hobnobs as well but decided we probably wouldn't need them until after Boxing Day so that got rid of a job. Have also cleaned the bathroom & lounge & brought everyone's presents down. The cats have already been investigating those, of course.
This afternoon, Mr F helped me make up 3 beds & I made a camp bed kit for oldest nephew. Mr F is busy cooking ham atm - it involves simmering in ginger beer with satsumas & smells gorgeous. I haven't had a chance to look at this week's food spend, but I think we look like coming in on.budget or if over, only by a small amount. There were a few things I intended to buy in town this morning ,- things like body cream, for e.g, but I will do some using up instead, & who knows, I may get some from Father Christmas, so it is probably more sensible that I wasn't out spending money.
Well, I've done all my jobs until tomorrow morning, so I think I'll put the tree lights on & read a little more of 'The Salt Path'.

I made some snowball cookies and used the chopped nuts that were languishing at the bottom of the cupboard
they went down really well, so thank you for the idea.
Hope you have a lovely Christmas5 -

@Debsnewbudget - Glad the snowball cookies turned out well.
@Onebrokelady - I'm glad you recommended it (ages ago) as I'm enjoying it & will add the next one to 2023's reading list. I've just read 'The Giver of Stars' by JoJo Moyes which you might like if you haven't already read, as it's about horses & books, as well as strong female characters. Hadn't read anything by this author but this title was recommended by a friend & I really enjoyed it.

Bright Blessings to you all this Christmas. Whether you celebrate the birth of the son of your God, the older midwinter festival of light or simply the enjoyment of some family time & a welcome break from work, I'd like to wish you all a happy peaceful time.
We're as ready as we can be for our guests & expect hosting to be both enjoyable & busy. I shall rejoin you at some point after the festivities & we can all have a catch-up.
Happy Yuletide,
