foxgloves said:Ooh yes, @Cheery_Daff, do have a look at it as it can often start to be past its best by high summer.....though last year, ours kept going for ages. Probably depends on the weather as much as anything.
I like your idea of using that strained juice on yoghurt. Could also be used in ice-lolly moulds.....if I had any. Mine were absolute crud from the £ shop & I binned them because that's all they were good for!

I am shocked that you threw the moulds away.4 -
Ice cube trays and a cocktail stick works ok.All that clutter used to be money3

@Whatlifeis & @scandimore - You're welcome. Hope you enjoy the muffins if your rhubarb harvest allows.
@ladyholly - Yes, I don't like adding plastic to landfill, that's for sure. I couldn't even get the lollies out of the moulds.....not even with the usual methods of running briefly under hot water, etc. Hopeless. Broken lumps of starting-to-melt ice & falling-to-bits moulds from all the pushing & pulling. Had to accept I'd wasted my £1! I remember Mum had some really good ones -full sized lolly shape- from Tupperw*re back in the 1970s.
@Sayschezza - I can see that would work, even though they'd be v small.

Hello 🌻🌻🌻,
Very definitely not a no-spend day as I bought a summer top on a boutique stall on our local market this morning followed by a linen dress in the brightest lime green at a clothes shop I'd only previously window-shopped. Clothes Pot will fund the dress, top from my Personal Spends .....that's a bit of penance as if my mid-section hadn't expanded (again!!), I'd be able comfortably to wear more of my summer wardrobe!
Bargain of the Day: Local market butcher (always v good range & quality at competitive prices) had lean pork mince at £5 for 2 kg. Well I couldn't leave it there, could I, esp when the butcher showed us - 500g packs destined for a high st chain with a well-known food hall. Now in our freezer. I will be interested to see how many meals I can make from that - loads I reckon.
Price rise shock of the day: This one involved Mr F. We went in a discount toiletries shop (which rhymes with people who explore caves) as his favoured brand of hair putty is always cheapest there at usually £2.99. It had increased in price to around £4, so he decided he'd see if it was on offer in the toiletries shop which is a footwear item. Well, I thought I was going to have to send for the town centre defibrillator!! It wasn't on offer & it had gone up to £5.60!! He was still working out the specific inflation rate when thankfully he found a supply at another discount shop for £2.99. My world-weary suggestion that he buy 2 or 3 fell on deaf ears, so I shall probably be administering a future hair putty-based cardiac massage in the not too distant future!
Weeding & dead heading garden borders this afternoon. Small bunch of catnip tied & hung for winter use by the 2 resident stoners. Cut cerinthe seed heads for harvesting free seed. Cut more lettuce & spring onions.
A bit of Jane Austen out on the coffee bench now.
Cheers m'dears,
F xx

Hope your bench is more sheltered than ours - we've just had a sudden and rather energetic downpour! 😮5

@Cheery_Daff - I'd love a downpour! Garden parched. Mr F defo on watering duties tonight.
It's cooler this evening & a brisk breeze getting up but apart from about a dozen raindrops mid-afternoon, a very dry day.

I'm slightly concerned everything we planted out will have been flattened! It didn't last long though, could do with a nice steady rain for a few hours - preferably while I'm elsewhere tomorrow 😂5

The lime green linen dress sounds fabulous. I love really bright colours.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)5

I do wish we had a market. All we have here is rather cheap but nasty shops. In fact thinking about it our town centre has very little in it these days even many of the charity shops have closed down. There was talk of a market a few years ago but a couple of thee posher shops put the kybosh on it. I once took part in a Christmas market and there were complaints from the said shops and unfortunately as thry had beeen in the town for years they had friends with influence. It is such a shame as both would bring in trade to the town instead of people automatically heading to the city or the nearest shopping mall. People here just dont seem to want small businesses.I used to live in Oldham and there was a really good market there, mind you that was 50 years ago so I dont know if its still there.6

I live near a town which has no shopping malls only the odd ginnel/alleyway that has shops hidden away. It is full of independent businesses and it thrives with them. I love it.
Is it wrong of me at this time to be a bit excited about the rains which are due and we have (bought for me by DH) a 250ltr pre owned water butt. I thought it would have been big enough or even too bigapparently not!! a 350 or even the 500ltr would be better suited and it would still be OK for the site that is in use right now. I had used carefully the water collected and still got halfway down the butt and used my washing up water for part of the lawn. (We are on a water meter.) It is connected to a large span roof and the rain that bucketed down I could see the level rising
I need to get out more me thinks.
